I'm curious what others experiences have been. We've had to take LO to the pedi about once every 1-2 weeks for something or another! And it's not that I'm a hypochondriac, every time we've gone there indeed has been need to go. I'm starting to feel like I'm a bad mom...like it's my fault that she has something wrong so frequently? How many times have you take LO to the doctor?
Re: How many times have you been to the pediatrician?
We've been 3 times. When she was 4 days old for a jaundice check and her 1 and 2 month appointments. I've called with questions and potential problems but we've never had to go in a for a "sick" appointment.
You're not a bad mom, don't worry. You are a great mom because you know she needs to go and get some help
We went twice in the first week that she was home for weight checks, then every two weeks. After next week's two month appt and shots, we start going once a month. With my insurance every visit is a $30 copay. Yikes!
And it's not your fault that you need to go more often than others. I prob don't go often enough, although we've called at all hours of the night about 3 times.
My doctor told me that at this age, you cannot call or go in too much if you think there's something wrong. You're a great mom for picking up on LO's problems so quickly and getting everything taken care of! I'm not sure what you've been taken her in for, but unless its something like a concussion from being shaken, I can assure you that its not your fault - babies sometimes just get sick.
I sometimes worry about being a bad mom because I tend to assume that whatever she is upset about is nothing major if I'm able to calm her down. I worry sometimes that maybe I'm going to miss a bigger issue because I'm "too relaxed."
Ivhave gone just as much as you, and it hasn't always been sonething for me but I feel it is justified. I have gone for 3 day, 1 mobth, and 2 month checkup, twice for a diaper rash (once they gave me bacterial ointment, second they gave me yeast infection ointment), I've gone because I thought he had thrush (which he didnt), and I've gone for his colic, which they cant do anything about.
Right now, one of his eyes has been leaking and getting a greenish discharge. It has been about 5 days, and I am debating on going or not. On one hand if its a clogged duct I should get it to go away with saline and warm compresses but i'm wondering if it's pink eye! Ugh! I will wait a week I guess...
Anyway, the whole point of this ramble is to say you are not alone and definitely not a bad mom!! Things just happen, better safe than sorry!

Regular 2 week and 2 month check.
Once for pink eye.
Once b/c he was breathing really weird at daycare and even stopped briefly.
Both sick visits and the 2 month check up were all in the same 1.5 week span. DS1 also had to go in b/c he had adenovirus.
It's absolutely better to just take them in! I didn't once with DS1 and it turns out he had hand, foot and mouth and had been miserable for days. Mom fail.
