C-sections

C-Section scheduled tomorrow...how to help with anxiety?

So, my scheduled day is almost here! I am so excited to meet LO, but today I am a complete anxious mess. I have stuff to do but am just sitting all tense on the couch. Any tips? I didn't sleep last night and am sure I won't tonight. Ugh. I just want this done and over!

Thanks:-) People keep asking if I am excited. Well, I am, but nothing feels real. This is our first (after a few miscarriages) and it just feels like I am going in for surgery. It still hasn't hit home that this LO in my belly will be here tomorrow. So hard to explain.

Good luck to you too! I hope the next few months go quickly for you! I know this pregnancy has seemed like an eternity to me!

  • Daydream about your LO? Try to think that by tomorrow afternoon/evening the anxiety will all be a distant memory?
  • i ended up having an emergency c section after pushing for a few hours on March 25th. Never wanted to go the CS route but had no choice.. I was a nervous wreck for both.   Just try and stay calm, as your nerves will up your blood pressure and you don't want that.  Just know that a scheduled csection will be much faster and smoother than an emergency one.   within an hour or two of getting to the hospital you will have your baby in your arms!!! Good Luck and congrats!

P.S make sure to take it easy for healing afterwards... it will make a world of difference.

  • I had an emergency c-section too.  Surgery has always been one of my biggest fears, I hate the feeling of not being in control of myself and not knowing what's going on.  However, at the time, after 12 hours of hard labour, and discovering at 10cm dilation that he was breech (in the butt first folded up like a V position) I was BEGGING for the c-section.  When it came down to it, I signed the papers, Doc asked a question and that's the last thing I remembered, then it felt like 30 seconds later that I woke up and had a baby.  Easy peasy...  recovery is a little rough, but you just have to remember that it gets better every day.  Have a support belt for your belly after because it will feel like your guts are falling out if you don't, but you'l probably feel so much better by week 3 that you'll forget the pain and want to do it all over again haha!!  Honestly, after being through it once, I would have no anxiety about doing it again.  Hope that makes you feel a little better :)

My baby is in the butt first folded like a V position. I guess it is called Frank Breech position. That is why I am having it scheduled. I will be awake with a Spinal, and that freaks me out, but I hear it goes quickly and that scheduled is easier than emergency, since I won't have the trauma of labor too!

Thanks for making me feel better about it!

  • You will do great!  I have a RCS on May 10th....I had one with DS three years ago.  Having the baby makes it all worth it.  Just try to relax as a much as possible (sleeping is hard esp. the night before!)
  • my baby failed his stress test on a saturday at 37 weeks... i was scared but only had 2 hours to worry about it! I went in got my IV which hurt more than the spinal! I hugged the nurse, they numbed my back and then give me the spinal... it felt like a weird pressure in my hips but not painful at all! then they gave me the catheter which i didnt feel and 10 minutes later, my baby was out! it went fine I healed well with little pain. it was really very very easy.... please try to get your rest as your last night baby free and get excited!
  • I suffer from severe anxiety, so when I found out at my growth scan / nst / bpp that I were to be having my c section the following day ( at 34 weeks) I had a melt down. I just got the last of my shopping done, talked with friends & snuggled my dog. 90% of my anxiety was leaving my dog & the spinal. i also had a friend have a c section exactly a week before I had one. same drs office & everything. she explained it all in detail. helped alot too. I got absolutely no sleep the night before. I had a good friend go with me for the section. She helped alot & my dr is amazing, he helped me calm down alot too. I asked for versaid, a side effect can be not remembering the birth, but for me, it didn't matter, I needed it. I have a higher tolerance, and had to get 2 miligrams & I remember everything. It was over before I knew it. I would totally do it again, and will when I have another baby. good luck & you will do great! feel free to pm with any questions.

  • My phone wont let me edit my post. after the spinal ( which hurt, not going to lie to you) i felt absolutley nothing.. my ob said with a spinal done correctly, you shouldnt even feel pressure. the not being able to feel my legs, didnt bother me as much as I thought it would. It took almost 4 hours in recovery until I could start lifting my legs & wiggling my toes, then I got wheeled to the nicu and got to hold my little boy for the first time. A few hours after being brought to my room, I was up walking around. good luck again!

  • First of all, to the OP- I just want to say best of luck!  I found out I will also need a c/s for my LO to come out safe and it's scheduled for Monday the 23rd. I was upset at first but now I'm just anxious for the time to come- I can't imagine how the night before will feel!

I want to say thanks so much to the people posting your positive experiences with c/s on here! It's such a huge help to hear it was no big deal.
