Nighttime leakage (? for BFing moms)

I have what I like to call an abundant milk supply.  I tend to let-down frequently, even if DD is not feeding.  Ever since she started sleeping more than a few hours in a row at night - I've had quite the problem with leaking.  Breast pads just weren't doing it for me. I would wake up with a soaking wet bra, shirt and surrounding sheets. I even tried those silicon pads that supposedly apply pressure - those didn't work either.  My newest solution is to roll up a towel which I stuff into my sports bra.  This seems to do the trick - however it's rather uncomfortable.  Anyone else have problems like this?  What are your solutions?

  • When DD started STTN I would wake up in such pain that I would have to pump just to be able to go back to sleep. They regulated themselves after a few days and now I only get up once (around 6am) to pump.

Same thing happened with me. I would wake up super engorged and leaking, but was too lazy to pump in the middle of the night. After a few nights of pain my supply regulated itself. Now I'll occasionally wake up leaking if she's slept particularly long or didn't eat much before bed, but most of the time I'm okay.

  • This has been an issue for me. After 6+weeks of LO STTN my supply has finally started to adjust... meaning instead of soaking my whole shirt I only soak the top part. : P

Short of stuffing a diaper in my shirt (which DH suggested, lol) I've found that doubling up Nuk Night Dry nursing pads will get me through the typical night. I keep a stack of breastpads by my bed and if I wake up, I'll change them.

  • I am still having nighttime leaking problems and DS has been STTN since he was 9 weeks old (8-10 hours/night). I have the bamboobies overnights which I double up with Medela disposable pads and I still wake up with wet spots on my nursing tank in the places where the pads touch the tank. I sleep with a towel under me to keep from getting the sheet wet. The only thing I've found to work really well is putting a prefold over the pads but it was way too uncomfortable to sleep like that. I am really hoping it gets better soon, I am tired of it.

Pretty much this.  Now I only pump whichever side LO doesn't take for his first feed.  He STTN and is up around 5:30 on weekdays and 7-8 on weekends.
