Success after IF

NSAIFR: How many houses did you look at...

Before you found one that suited your family? I think we've seen 20, and none have excited me. Time for a new agent? Or am I just a grumpy pregnant lady?
After 7 failed IUIs, IVF w/ ICSI worked!!

I am thankful every day for my miracle after infertility.

And thrilled to be pregnant again after FET!

  • 4 :( its not the perfect house but we only had a week to find one and there was very little inventory in the area we wanted.

  • Only a handful - maybe 4 or 5  - but that's because location was very important to us and there were only a few available in the area(s) we wanted.  If you're looking for the right house, regardless of location ...  I think that could go on forever!  GL!
  • It was the first house I wanted to go see, we saw about 10 more, but none of them compared to the first one. :)  I just needed to let my brain catch up to my heart in the decision making process.

  • We saw about 45 houses, made I think 7 offers. This was last

Year and most were foreclosures and short sales. It was all a game

But so worth it in the end because of the house we got. Luckily

    Our realtor was a trooper!

This will apply for us.  Houses are selling within minutes of listing in the community we are looking at. :(

This was our experience exactly although we put in over 25 offers. We eventually had to stop seeing houses and just put offers in as soon as something came on the market.  It was crazy but the house we got ended up being perfect for us.

We also switched realtors halfway through the process.  A patient, understanding realtor is key when going through the process. Looking back, the first realtor we went with had us very low on his priority list. We'd probably still be looking if we stayed with him.

Best of luck and I hope you find something!

  • I've lost count...we've been looking for about a year, but have really become very serious in the last 4 months. I would say we are approaching 50. I have seriously considered offers on several, but always talk myself out of it. Made two offers so far - one complete rejection & one in negotiations now.

We are open to a few different towns & I think that makes it more challenging!

  • Our first (city condo) we looked at maybe 5 or 6 before making an offer (then that fell through and we made another offer after looking at 2 more). We probably didn't even need to see that many since city condos in Chicago are pretty fungible other than location.

For our suburban home, we made one trip out to the burbs and saw maybe4-5 houses. We both really liked one, came back the next day to look again and made an offer (and we now live in it).

    *** It's funny because I'm fat ***
  • The first time, about 10.  And we ended up buying the first one we saw.

The second time less, 5 or 6.  But, we knew we wanted the one we bought the second we saw it online, before we ever even set foot in it.
  • We saw about 15 houses in one suburban area and then decided that we hated the traffic to where we worked so we switched to another suburb.  Then we saw about another 10-15 houses.  But when we saw our house, I knew.  I just knew it was the right one and I was done.  There were 2 other people bidding on our house too so it took a few stressful days to work it all out but 8 months later, it's been worth the stress!

  • I was looking at the height of a sellers market here. Houses in our price range and in the location we were willing to buy were few and far between. We saw about 30. I fell in love with 2 of the 30. We only had a short time to buy in.

This house we live in now was bought more off location than perfect home. We are slowly doing some work to make it perfect since we can't sell it now =/ Kind of wish we rented and were more picky.

Keep looking if it is going to be your forever home. It may take longer, but it is better to not get stuck with a home that is only so-so and have regrets.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.

  • We stalked houses online for over a year...we'd find ones that were promising and then go drive by them, check out the neighborhood, peek in windows if it wasn't occupied...  I always found something "wrong" with them.  Until our house...it just felt right, despite its hideous decor, dirt, and abandoned yard.  That was the first, and only, house we ever went in.  (weird, huh?!)  Are there specific things that you aren't liking about each house?  or are they all just way off the mark?  if its the latter, I'd look into a new agent.  good luck!
  • At least 70, but I'm a HUGE oddity!  My dad was our real estate agent and while he was frustrated that we had to look at so many houses, he agreed that none of the ones we looked at were right before we found ours.
  • I am in this now....

Our house sold in 9 days. Quite unexpected. Closing is in 2 weeks.  So in the past 2 weeks I have looked at about 15 houses. Haven;'t loved any of them. A foreclosure in a 'hood that I love is on the market, but we put in an offer and the bank countered at full price. Not sure how to move forward since it needs about $20K just to make it livable. I have a plan to look again over the weekend, while packing, but in the neighborhoods we want, there is very little on the market in our price range. And I just can't go further out - the commute from work is too much in the afternoon.

So, i expect we will look at another dozen or so before making a decision.

  • One ;-)

We looked at several more after this one, but we just sort of knew this was the house for us.  This was the subdivision we wanted, and there were only two houses for sale in it.  One needed a LOT of cosmetics, and this one didn't.  So, we jumped on it.

Plus, we had limited time as we had sold our other house...but I would have been fine to rent a house for awhile if we hadn't found this house.

  • I wanted to add that we started to pre-screen houses before we would waste our time going to see them with our agent. Look at pics online, look at the street/neighborhood view on google maps, look at the zillow info about comps & sales history, do a drive by and then, if it was still a contender, go see it. It was exhausting, but there were over 600 houses in our rice range and I am incredibly picky, so it was worth it to me.

Drive by was the single most important thing because it ruled so many out right away - location, powerlines, railroad tracks, busy side street, etc...

Good luck! It is exhausting, discouraging and exciting all at once!

This for us too!  We looked at hundreds online, and then probably went to see about a dozen - 15 both times we bought.  Both times we probably only looked 2 or 3 days with a realtor.

Good luck!  Can you pinpoint what is wrong with the houses you are seeing?  I know we were not loving anything we looked at until we decided to up our price range a little - then there were several contenders (with our current house being the obvious choice for us.)
