Nervous about adoption talk w/ my parents

I just need to say this "out loud" here.....I am soo nervous!!!  DH & I have decided that we are moving forward with adoption to build our family.  We told his parents weeks ago but haven't told my parents yet. (I have a better relationship with In-laws than parents; super long story)  Anyway, we are all getting together tomorrow night for dinner so that we can tell my parents.  In-laws are going as support.  We know in our hearts that this is the right path for us right now.  It would just be nice if my mother could just be supportive even if she doesn't agree with what we are doing.

Side note: We have retained an adoption lawyer and we are going to start the process of the homestudy.  Eeekk!!

    Congratulations!  I know the ladies on the Adoption board will have some words of wisdom if you ask, but with our families, we went into the conversation knowing there may be a learning curve (so I didn't instantly hate MH's mother for saying something awkward) and ready with explanations for how things work, to combat misconceptions.  Turns out we got pretty good responses, though.

    How exciting!!  I hope your parents are supportive and excited- they should be super excited- I am glad at least your inlaws are excited

    I am happy for you and hope everything goes smoothly.  I loved the gals on the adoption board when we were researching agencies.

    It's been a long journey. TTC since 9/06. multiple IUI's and IVF's and 4 m/c's. IVF#3 = BFP, twins, induced at 34w6d due to baby b passing away (no explanation). Delivered on 35w1d, Baby A - baby girl, and Baby B - baby boy, our little angel.

    Yeah, I can understand your nerves, it's definitely a giant step for you! Hopefully once your family sees how sure you are in your decision, they will back you up. Can't wait for the update :)

    GL with your parents. As PPs have suggested, the people on the Adoption board will probably have some good suggestions and book recommendations.  I hope your mother can be a nonjudgmental support for you and your DH.
