I am having my baby in a hospital and have an obgyn. I wish I had a midwife though, oh well, next baby. Anyway, I am going to try to do this drug free (but realize I will do what I need to do to get the baby out healthy). I know the hospital does not allow eating during labor, or drinking. But, I would still like to bring snacks with me in case I am in labor for a long time and need energy. Who knows, eating could be the last thing on my mind, but I want to be prepared and nourished.
Thanks for responding!
Re: Labor snacks
You'll want things that are easy to digest and high in protein to help keep your blood sugar and energy up.
My last labor I prepared tangerines, yogurt with honey, and crackers, but ended up not eating any of it because the intense part of my labor started shortly after lunch time and only lasted 2 hours.
Coconut water is a healthier alternative to gatorade and other sports drinks and will help keep your electrolytes balanced.

I went into labor within an hour after eating lunch. About 2.5 hours after lunch my system cleared itself and I vomited while I was on the toilet. Even though I had no food in my system I wasn't hungry during my 18 hour labor. I did drink a ton of ice water and had a couple of honey sticks when I started to feel light headed.
I did pack a bag of snacks that I thought I might want duing labor such as granola bars, trail mix, pudding cups, fruit cups and some peanut M&Ms. While I didn't eat any of these during labor I did have them while boarding at the hostpial while K was in the NICU.
