I am kind of disappointed, but DH (because of his line of work) won't be able to take time off to go to any birthing classes with me. I feel weird going by myself, but the nurse at my OB office said she strongly recommends taking one if I plan on a natural birth...is there anyone out there that didn't take a birth class and feels like they did just fine? My mom is really sweet and found a DVD for us to watch on childbirth, but I don't know...is it the same as having an actual class? We don't have good internet access to be able to watch any videos online without a lot of hassle, so that option isn't the greatest either. I can just imagine sitting in a Barnes and Noble trying to watch a childbirthing class online with DH- not cool lol.
This is my first and I really want to do it naturally, but I'm scared that if I don't figure out a way to take a class I'll be confused and frustrated when I go into labor and let someone talk me into something I really don't want to do deep down.
Re: Birth Class
Have you looked for other classes in your area? Or maybe you could find someone who does private classes.
There are plenty of women who give birth every day without having ever taken a class, so it's definitely possible. I have to say that I don't know that my experience would have been as pleasant if I hadn't taken my Hypnobirthing class.
I am signed up for Hypnobirthing Classes (starting next week) and my husband can't go with me because of his work schedule. The good thing I found out though is that you get a book and a cd to take home with you. I'm planning on just going over everything with him and keeping him informed on how things are going to go.
He has also been doing his own research/reading on the side, which helps.
I would encourage your husband to learn about the type of birth class you are planning on attending and also maybe schedule some time with him one on one to go over how you'd like for him to support you.
