I know on TTGP they always said that drinking gree tea could cause contractions that could prevent implantation? or something like that...
Anyway, I brew my own green tea and drink it cold - but I have not had any since getting BFP. Do you know if green tea is safe to drink during 1st tri? Will it cause the same problems as it did in TTGP?
thanks in advance
Re: gree tea safe in first tri?
From what I've read, there's research out there that says green tea inhibits the bodies ability to effectively absorb folic acid. Since folic acid is SUPER important in the first tri to prevent spina bifida, I've cut it out completely just to be safe. I think it's far safer in 2nd and 3rd tri's since that's when the risk of spina bifida largely diminishes. If i were you, I'd at least put it on hold til 2nd tri and be diligent with your prenatals.
Also, I have no clue if I'm spelling spina bifida correctly.
In the words of Lilly's Doctor on "How I Met Your Mother"..........."Just a little bit".......but seriously, I would just nix it for about 1st tri, talk to Doc and see if it's ok in moderation. As long as you aren't chasing it with a chocolate bar and Pepsi.....you should be fine.
Yeah, green tea is only "bad" because it inhibits your prenatal vitamin from absorbing correctly. I cut it out completely. Caffeine is not inherently bad unless your consuming ridiculous amounts of it

My midwife said she prefers I do not drink tea for now for this very reason (even decaf)
