Hi ladies. Right now I'm a SAHM, but I'm wanting to get an internship this summer. I have an interview on Friday. I know most daycares wouldn't watch a baby for just a few hours, but I'm considering using one of those Drop-In daycares.....have any of yall used this, and what has been your experience?
I would almost rather do a drop-in daycare instead of finding a babysitter or nanny to come to our house.....but not sure what my options are.
Re: Drop-In Daycare? (XP)
We will be starting daycare next month as DH's work schedule is changing. We opted for drop-in care mainly because most centers in our area only accept full-time kids, and we will only need about 10 hours/ week of childcare. We found a center that does drop-in. The facility is brand new. The owner of this particular center owns another one in the same area and I haven't read/ heard anything negative about it.
It's kind of pricey. They charge $7.50/hour per child for drop-in care, but for 2 they discount it to $13/hour. I like the idea of being able to call on short notice. Their 'policy' is 24hours in advance, but they said that because this center is new, they are more lenient on how much notice they need. They said more like 1 hour notice. Plus, they are open weekends until like 10pm.
How many hours do you think you will need childare/week? If you need more than say 20 hours/ week, then I'd suggest finding someone to come to your house. We opted not to do this because I want my girls to have some interaction with other kids their age and not be confined to the house all the time.
When I was a SAHM I considered taking on a one week contract employment position and I researched drop-in daycares. I did find one and they wanted to charge a certain amount for under five hours or a certain amount for a full day. I decided not to pursue that employment contract but it was nice to know that DS didn't have to be a FT child there to receive services.
Some daycares don't do "drop-ins" so you would just have to do your research.
