Nicholas has not pooped one time on the potty since we've been hardcore training. he has pooped in it maybe 4 times- but that was when it was more "okay sit on the potty before bathtime' and we just happened to get lucky I guess.
I noticed today that he was walking funny, like all bent over. So of course I assume he is pooping and run over to him. He says "No go that way" Which in his language means, "Mommy go away". I hurry him to the potty and sit him on it. One turd comes out. He usually poops a few turds. Nothing in his underwear, so I got to him in time.
Soooo is it possible that he'll hold in the rest of his poops. Like once I put his underwear back on or his Pull Up (for nap in an hour) he'll finish?
Re: Pooping on the potty- is this possible?
Possible for sure.
I'd push juice a TON to make it really soft and make sure it never hurts. One good bout of withholding and a painful poop can create all sorts of issues.
Pooping seems harder for a lot of kids for some reason. It was for my DS. He wasn't used to pooping sitting down. A stool seemed to help with that.
This happened to DD when she was potty trained 6 months ago. She started holding it and it's been hard for her to get it on track. I read that a lot of kids do this when potty training. Like they're scared to do it so the pinch it back. Eventually, it just slows everything down.
I had to start giving DD probiotic gummies and that has helped a TON. It's all just part of the process, I guess. Good luck!

I have heard that pooping on the potty is a huge obstacle for a lot of kids and they will hold it. We were very lucky in this area (as usual we can't take the credit, just fell a$$ backward into it working out) but in retrospect, two things that *may* have played a role are 1) G has pretty soft poops, she goes often, eats lots of fiber so....it was gross as heck to clean up and probably incredibly unpleasant to sit in. I think a lot of "holders" have harder poop that isn't really that uncomfortable to sit in a couple of pebbles, etc. and 2) one night she did poop on the potty and it was a HUGE turd. I took a picture of it to text to DH who was out. A day or two later she was looking through my phone and found the picture and was like "hey that's my poo poo in my potty" and I was like "yeah- you rock, so I took a picture to send to Daddy. I can't be sure but I think she was really proud of herself and it made an impact. The night of the photo she ended up pooping her pants while at dinner an hour later but that was the last poop in the pants incident....so, I sort of think that played a role.
So my advice us help him have soft poops and then scream about it from the top of the mountain so he knows how friggin awesome poop in the potty is.
