I am going to be returning to work soon and am going to start needing to supplement. I want to start now to make sure my baby is ok with the formula we choose. How should I start to integrate the formula into his diet? Should I mix some with breast milk or just start giving him a bottle of formula a day?
Please tell me how you feed your baby? Do you do formula and breast milk at certain times of day(like formula at night, breast milk during the day?) Just confused on how to supplement and not upset baby's stomach?
Re: Supplementing with Formula... how do you do it?
For LO's 1st week, we breastfed except for one night feeding (Hubby did that one so I could get some sleep). By week 2, I was only breastfeeding 2 times a day and pumping the rest. By 3 weeks, LO's intake increased and I couldn't keep up and store milk so we started supplementing. First, we mixed 1oz formula and 2 oz breast milk, but eventually just went to half and half. By 4 weeks, Lo was exclusively on formula.
To be honest, I felt like he had more digestive problems while on breast milk. He was gassier and fussier (Yes, I am aware that could have been from what I was eating). We use the gas-less enfamil formula and he's been doing great.
Good Luck!
our baby will take a bottle of formula or a bottle of breast milk, I just pump 7 times a day, which gives me about 25 ounces but he drinks 35-40...
i dont notice stomach problems or painful gas, but he does have gas from time to tome!!
similac sensitive concentrate he loves!
I had to start early due to a low production issue. We started using a cup (baby <1 week old) and then moved up through eyedroppers to a pendant and tube system. Then the lactation consultant saw that LO latched great and had us just start on bottles. Since then, we've always just nursed and then fed with the bottle right after.
I pump at work, and so whatever I get at work gets added to the bottles (since I never get more than 1 oz at a time, it's only adding a little bit).
