Vacationing with LO

We just got back from vacation on Saturday and as lovely as it was, vacationing with a 7 1/2 month old is a whole new ball game!!  It was so much fun watching her discover the feel of sand, the ocean, and the pool.  I just didn't realize how long it would take to get out of the house we rented to get to do those things!

Oh, and FYI, swim diapers should be put on at the very last minute.  LO had an explosion in one and apparently they do not do well with anything other than pee.

Has anyone else been on vacation with their LO?  How did it go?

Re: Vacationing with LO

  • We went to Dominican Rep with my parents when Max was 6.5 months old. We had a blast! The only thing is, I didn't realize how paranoid I would be about sun exposure. That baby was covered up from H to T!

  • We went to Denver in December, but stayed in the hotel most of hte time because it was snowing and dangerous. Vacation Fail.

I suggest you buy a reusable swim diaper. They don't handle pee (because who cares if you pee in a pool, and absorbancy is not a good thing then...) but are way better at handling poo than disposable ones because they have actual elastic. If your baby isn't getting wet, then a swim diaper isn't necessary at all.

OMG!  I was the same way.  I felt like I was putting sunscreen on her every five minutes.  She was getting so mad at me for bothering her while she was "playing" with her cousins.

  • Glad you had a good time - And yeah, swim diapers are meant to hold solids and let liquids through. Niiiiiice.

OP - Did LO eat sand? LOL, I bet that was interesting!

SarahPLiz - Could you fill me in on a reusable swim diaper? Brand, where to purchase, etc? Thanks!

  • We did San Diego last month and it was a great trip with our son! We're headed to Virginia Beach this Summer and I know I'll be very paranoid about the sun b/c LO has very fair skin just like me. We're also doing Denver in the Fall but I don't think I'll be as worried about that trip.

We use CD regularly, so for a while I just used a pocket diaper with no insert. But then I decided I didn't want to potentially ruin my diapers with chlorine, so I bought him a Finis swim diaper. IPlay is another good brand. I got DS's from swimoutlet.com. It looks like a baby speedo and is SO cute. They also have sets for girls with a top on them. https://www.swimoutlet.com/Kids_Swim_Diapers_s/354.htm
