My DD will be 3 in just a few months. She's been potty trained during the day for almost a year (since right before she turned 2 and she caught on super fast) however she still wakes up soaked every night. She's still in pull ups at night and sometimes even soaks through those. And when she wets the bed, she's always upset with herself so I know she "gets" it. We've never made a big deal about it or made her feel bad, we just change clothes/sheets quick and tell her its not her fault and we will try the next night. We've tried limiting what she drinks at night by only giving her a small drink with dinner around 6 and nothing after that.
She very very rarely has an accident during the day. I keep thinking after a year of being potty trained during the day, she would start waking up drier at night but she doesn't seem to be. And she doesn't seem to have the sense to wake herself up to go, but she is a very heavy sleeper.
So...my question is, what did you do to help your kids potty train at night? Or did you simply wait until they started waking up dry on their own? When did that happen? Any other advice on what we could do? I know all kids are different but am just wondering what others experiences have been.
Thanks!
Re: Nighttime Potty Training Question
My son has been day time trained since 24 months. He's 4 in June (45 months?) and is only just showing signs that he's ready to go without pull ups at night. HE's woken up dry nearly every night for 3 or so weeks, and is asking to go in the night sometimes, or right away when waking up. I'm thrilled, but am still waiting til it's warmer before trying him, so prob another month or two.
It varies so much. I've heard of 24 month olds who PT day and night at the same time, and some (like my niece) who are 5 before they're finally sorted at night. But like PP said, it's not a matter of training, just when they're ready.
