baby acne...yes, we've still got it

...and it makes me crazy.

We've been to the dermatologist. We've been to the pedi. I've got an appointment set for a week and a half away to see a derm pedi at Riley.

I'm not going to get into everything we've done to try to get rid of it. Point is, the kid still has some lingering blackheads on his cheeks and a couple red bumps. Mostly though, his skin is smooth, but with red marks from the previous breakouts. However, it's not the clear, smooth baby skin he's supposed to have. I cry every single day because of it.

I know this is pretty rare, but is anyone else out there suffering through this with me?? It would be nice to know that I'm not totally alone (and my kid isn't a freak of nature).

  • DS had it pretty bad and I kept saying shouldn't this be gone by now. Then we found out about all his allergies, changed formula, soap, etc and it magically went away.

  • What kind of allergies? We switched to Nutramigen and saw some improvement, but it isn't totally gone. What kind of soap do you use? We are using Cetaphyl.

  • He's allergic to dairy mainly but some other random fruits and veggies and medications. We switched to Alimentrum and noticed a big difference. We use Aveeno Baby for soap/shampoo but I'm thinking of changing it because his scalp is way to dry. For lotion we use Cetaphil. Also, some of what the doctor kept calling "baby acne" was actually eczema according to the pedi derm but it seriously looked more like acne. We started with an over the counter hydrocordisone once a day for a few days and that cleared up most of it, then on the severe spots that started to look more like real eczema (back & leg) we used a prescription.

  • My son still has it too and it has never even crossed my mind to go to a dermatologist over this.  His is mainly on his cheeks and around his mouth.  Pedi told me at 6 month appt that it isn't that uncommon to still see this when they use a paci and are drooling alot... which is my son.  his face is always wet.  So I honestly haven't even thought twice about it...

I am confused how a few pimples on the face can mean an allergy?
