LO is sleeping on stomach...a little nervous?

So LO is just over 6 months and the past couple of nights he has decided that he likes to roll on his belly to sleep. Is this ok at 6 months? I feel a little nervous even though he can roll, lift his head etc. Anyone else's LO roll from back to stomach to sleep?

  • Its completely normal for him to do that and even more normal for you to be nervous. I just checked on her more and was even more grateful for my angelcare monitor

  • Totally normal, and I just recently stopped checking for breathing before I go to sleep at night;)

  • i had heard that once they could roll on their on, it was ok to let them stay there.  we started letting the boys sleep on their stomachs pretty early on- they were so happy that way.  it is reasonable to be nervous, of course, but i think you're ok.

  • N started rolling onto his stomach around that time too.  I panicked the first night and must have checked him 100 times but not long after that I realized I couldn't keep checking him and rolling him back over.  I actually got used to it pretty quickly and he slept so much better that way.  Once they can roll by themselves, the risk of SIDS goes down quite a bit.

Ditto this. Isabel slept on her stomach very early and it made me very nervous. We checked on her like a million times a night

I still check on my teenagers at night to make sure they are breathing...I don't think the worry ever ends.

I've always heard once they can roll over, then they can sleep any way they like. The girls are totally on their stomachs now.

  • DD has been doing this for a few weeks now. Pedi assured me that it's fine once they can do it on their own and you can't stop them anyway! It still freaks me out sometimes when she "face plants".
