C-sections

Infected Incision

I had a scheduled Csection on April 4, i went int 6 days later to have staples removed and one side of the incision was slightly infected so Dr prescribed antibiotics and they applied steristrips. The next days half the steristrips had falled off because the incision was so moist and yuck. So I went back in and she gave me a prescription for a stronger antibiotic. That was 4 days ago, I am due back tomorrow, and from what I can tell it is STILL infected. :(

ANyone have similar issues? Im reasy for the pain and the worrying about it to end Stick out tongue

Re: Infected Incision

  • I had to go through 2 courses of antibiotics as well as nearly 2 weeks of going in to have my incision cleaned and packed with gauze.  Make sure you are keeping the outside clean and dry, with gauze pads over it as well.

  • I had a Csection on Mar 25th and although my incision never got infected, about a week after discharge it started bleeding from a spot and has been leaking ever since.  Doctors aren't too concerned about it, they say its better for fluids to be coming out then staying in.   I also had two rounds of antibiotics as well... and from what i've heard it can continue leaking for weeks sometimes months.   Just make sure you keep it as dry as possible and very clean.

  • Yeah the Dr told me to keep a maxi pad over the incision where it is leaking to keep it dry, so Im doing that. Otherwise just taking my antibiotics and wishing it would just heal already :)

  • Soooo going thru this right now. I'm 14 days PP. On 10 days PP I wanted to adjust my steri strips because it felt like it was poking me. Pulled my hand out and it was all wet.  Fluid was yellowish color with a pink tinge. Of course I freaked out. We went to the ER. The OB on call drained it and put gauze on it.  Gave me two different types of antibiotics (septra/bactrim and keflex). I have been dressing it myself until yesterday. The OB set me up with a wound specialist. Yesterday, she cleaned it and packed the 1cm hole with gauze.  My pelvis area was swollen and red due to the fluid inside. When I woke up this morning fluid was going down my leg.  Another hole opened up (which is great because it is closer to the side with more fluid). Went to the wound specialist, she cleaned, packed, and dressed both holes.  The swollen area was seemed like it had less fluid.

Basically it just needs to drain and the antibiotics should help with the swelling and redness.  I just want everything over with already! It's been so hard taking care of myself and wanting to take care of LO. I feel bad for DH since he's been taking care of both of us.

Ugh, are you me??  I had the exact same thing happen.  My Drs and I managed it by draining it, hot packing and lots of antibiotics.  I skipped the wound specialist step (I'm a vet and used to dealing with abscesses so the Drs just had me pack it etc at home).  Thank heavens for percocet, is all I have to say.

Hope everyone heals up quickly!  Mine closed up in about 10 days, and my scar doesn't look too bad now (6 weeks pp).  The only thing is some thickening in the layer under the skin, which I assume is scar tissue which will hopefully remodel.  I have a little 'pouch' just above my scar that I'm very much hoping goes away!!

Me and my Kiwi, both 38.  We struggled with RPL and were blessed with Micah.  I'm a full custody stepmom to Ethan!
