LO doesn't want to eat!

And 1 week (less now) shy of his 1st birthday. Anyone else experiencing this?

He had a fever for 3 days; it's now subsiding, but he's lost his appetite. All he wants to do is breastfeed, but we've been weaning, so my supply is super low! He gets so frustrated cuz nothing is coming out. I thought he was teething but wasn't sure, so I brought him to the doctor just in case, and the doctor thinks it might be viral. Ugh, I don't know!

If you are dealing with this, what are you doing to help LO cope with this?

Re: LO doesn't want to eat!

  • That has to be frustrating, but I wouldn't be too concerned.  It's normal to loose your apetite when you're not feeling well.  The nursing probably comforts him.  Could you hold him and give him a bottle or sippy cup of milk or formula.  holding him in the position you nurse him in might help.  Anything you can get into him will help to tide him over until his apetite is back to normal.  Can you spoon feed him chicken broth?

I'm sorry to hear that he's not feeling well.  Good luck getting your little man back on his feet.

He doesn't want to have anything to do with the bottle. :( He was doing well before this...He'll sometimes drink from the same cup I'm drinking from, i.e. water or whole milk, but that doesn't last long either. *sigh*

He'll take a few sips/bites of soup/porridge, but he's over it after three bites.

    Thanks for your kind words!

Ibuprofen.  Even if the fever is gone, I would keep doing this for another day or two.  It can work wonders for the overall miserableness of viral illnesses.

I think I need to try this. I've been giving him Baby Tylenol, but it hasn't been super effective. Thank you for the recommendation!

  • It was roseola. He broke out into a rash last night. Hoping he is all better by his first birthday party on Saturday!
  • I'm glad you know what it is.  It looks like a sore throat is one of the symptoms which could be contributing to his lack of apetite.  Hopefully he'll be feeling better soon.

Poor appetite was on the symptoms for sure. I thought this was a change I was going to have to adjust to. Yesterday, he started eating a bit more, and he went back to only waking up only once throughout the night. Thank goodness for that!! I thought we were gonna have sleep problems again.

    Thank you!!
