6 Weeks Early

At a routine check up at 32wks my OB ordered an US because I was measuring small.  After the US, I was admitted to the hospital for low fluid, just for observation and a few test and was told that I was going to have a "small baby" because of IUGR.  That night my water broke and I was put on strict hospital bed rest.  The doctors were going back & forth about how long before they would deliver my sweet girl.  I got  steroid injections for her lung development & was able to hold on through irregular contractions for 2 weeks.  Little Eloise was born 3/8/12 at 2lbs 15ounces.  She was sent straight to the NICU where she has gotten amazing care.  She only was was the ventilator for 1 day and has been on room air ever since.  Luckily, no infection developed and she is off all IVs too.  At 5 weeks old she is now 4lbs 3ounces and we have even started to attempt bottle feeding with my breast milk that I have been pumping.  Due to her cleft soft palette, it is difficult and stressful.  The doctors are saying it could be another month or longer before Eloise gets to come home.  Logically I know it is what is best for her, but emotionally I don't know if I can handle another month or longer.

Re: 6 Weeks Early

  • Thank you.  Today is a good day.  Eloise took 16mL from her bottle with no apnea spells and gained an ounce last night.  Slowly she is making gains, I am so proud to be her Mom.

  • I'm so sorry that you are looking at another month. That's so tough even though you know she needs to be there. I hope things start turning around for you soon (and it looks like from your PP, things are!).

    Good luck.
