Burn blisters - to pop or not to pop?

I dropped bacon on my arm while transferring it from the pan this morning.  I couldn't find my burn cream and now I have a nice little blister or two.  I can't for the life of me remember if you're supposed to pop them or not?  I figured experienced moms would have the answer.  :)

My gut says not to pop.

But I have terrible intuition. I was 8cm dilated when I arrived at the hospital to give birth to DD. I thought I just had a stomach ache. Sigh...

haha... lmao   thanks!  Wow - I hope my labor is no worse than a stomach ache!

  • hehe  I feel like that sounds like an Irish blessing...  May the wind be always at your back and your labors no worse than a stomach ache.

  • You aren't supposed to, but I always do.

I pop them, drain them and then put neosporin and a band aid on it.

I don't think you are supposed to pop them but if they do on their own you are just supposed to keep them clean. I think. Popping them sounds like a bad idea anyway. :)

  • Thanks, ladies!

  • I don't pop them until they are a few days old (if I can help it).  Then I just make a small pin prick in the blister so it can air out a little.  I leave the skin on.

Make sure you run the burn under cold water to take some heat out.  Hope it feels better soon, burns are the worst!

  • A blister is your body's own bandaid. Let it be!
  • Don't do it. The blister is your body's band-aid. Plus, it will hurt more once you pop it.

Way late to this, but no. Don't pop. The reason it blisters is because the fluid protects the damaged skin and helps it to heal.

  • Thanks again for the responses.  I haven't popped it and it hasn't been giving me any problems.  I actually forgot about it until I noticed this post!
