Success after IF

Back from monitoring appt and confused-great.

Backstory: took clomid 200mg cd3-7. Baseline u/s last week showed 15 antral follicles on my right ovary and 8-9 on my left. Today is cd9.

So the lab tech starts doing her thing and the screen is turned away so I can't see what's going on. She starts counting to ten and I'm thinking "huh?". Then she says my lining is still pretty thick and I may start bleeding again. She said it was unusual for my lining to be this thick even though I am done bleeding. Again, "huh?".

So then she says I need to go to the front to pick up a prescription for Clomid and that's when I say that I already took it, Saturday was my last dose. She then says "oh! I thought this was your baseline u/s!". I felt like too much of an idiot to ask her about the lining/me bleeding again so I just asked if she saw everything she was supposed to see or if she needs to do it again and she said she's good. Ok, sooo...what did you see? I need to learn how to be more outspoken because I left confused and not knowing if what she saw was a good or bad thing. The lady up front said that my doctor will go over my results and they'll call me to give me my next step.

But I want to know what she saw! Antral follicles still? (Is that normal on cd9?) Nothing growing? What?

I guess I need to call them back and get a more thorough explanation.  Awesome.

Re: Back from monitoring appt and confused-great.

  • Well that's frustrating!  I would give them a call back and ask for some clarification.  I would be irritated that the u/s tech didn't know what kind of apointment she was in.  I wouldn't feel stupid calling back at all.  That appt would have confused me too!

  • yeah, i would definitely complain to your doctor about her not knowing WTF she was doing.

i think that there are always antral follies there at any time, so that's not necessarily bad. let us know when you get more info, okay? hope it's good news!

  • I think it's normal to see a lot of small follicles at this point.  I went in on Thursday (CD8) and had a lot of very small follicles (too small to really measure).  After 2 more days of drugs I still had a ton of small ones, but 2 that looked like they were growing some.  Are you taking anything in addition to the clomid (like Bravelle)?  I've never had monitoring on Clomid alone, but this is usually the point they had me start with Bravelle injections.

I hope they call soon with an explanation.  Good luck!

No, just Clomid to get these follies to grow and then assuming I respond, Ovidrel trigger shot.

I'm still waiting for  a callback! So annoyed right now.

  • It does sound like your doc was going to call to discuss next steps, so I'm guessing you will get a call eventually.

If I am not mistaken this is a new clinic, yes?

  • Yes it's a new clinic. Got a callback! I have a few follicles on each ovary but they are 8-9mm which obviously is small. I go back Thursday for another u/s.

Okay, cool deal.  I do agree that you should feel confident in speaking up at appts.  I know the feeling though, of not wanting to ask questions, etc.  Some techs also put off this aire like you are not to ask them anything that they are just taking pictures and in reality that is all they are responsibly for; it is your RE that interprets, so I wouldn't lose faith based on this; it is not like she was going to tell you what to do next.  I'd roll my eyes at her but wouldn't judge the practice based on it.

I think your numbers are looking great!  Remember we don't want too many big ones for fear of overstimulating for the IUI.  I think Thursday will tell you more.  Are you still taking the Clomid?  Did they adjust the dosage?  I don't remember your previous response to Clomid but I would specifically be asking on Thursday what the RE thinks, if he thinks you should adjust dosaging, what size/numbers is he looking for (ranges).  I always find it good to ask these questions to get them to think and also reitterate my past experience from previous cycles to be sure they are looking at the whole history.  Should they be?  Sure, but I go to a huge practice and I dang well want to be certain my case isn't lost in the mix if I can say something that would ensure they are considering all options.

I'm excited to follow your cycle!!

I'm definitely going to speak up on Thursday. I'm going to ask what she meant by my lining being too thick. Isn't thick a good thing, regardless of where you are in your cycle?

You're right, I do not want too many follies. The last thing I want is for this cycle to be canceled and start all over again. I'm really really hoping I have 1-2 grow nice and big though.

My 1st cycle, 50 mg, I got one follie but we did TI and got a BFN. 2nd cycle, 100 mg, no response. This is my 3rd (and last) cycle on it, 200 mg.

    Here's to hoping Thursday's u/s goes a lot smoother!
