Questions about AP

I have never read a book about AP and Im not 100% educated about it but I seem to follow (or want to follow with new baby) some of the practices.

With baby on board (via our wonderful surrogate) we like the idea of AP. We were very determined to have a midwife (which I think we got) who is supportive of our situation. Someone who will involve us as much as possible as soon as possible.

I am attempting to induce lactation, if not I will breastfeed via a supplimental nurser. It is important for me to establish that bond, if baby gets breastmilk too thats great! I have 3 mobys, a great woven wrap and a mei tai which bith DH and I used for B&Js and will use again for this baby. We also did babyled weaning without ever knowing it had a name.

We extended rearface and ?extended harness? as our 5.5year old is still in a 5 point harness. We also cloth diaper and DH only wants to use cloth with the new one except our 1st 3 days and only since we will be in a hotel.

The things I am needing guidance on are the discipline (websites or books outlining?) and co-sleeping. I do have a safe&secure in bed sleeper thing but we are terrified of something happening to baby. I have read reports it is unsafe. Am I missing

  • Regarding cosleeping, Dr. James McKenna is a leading respected researcher. Yes, there are risks and you need to set up a safe sleep arrangement. There are also risks to crib sleeping and having your baby in another room.

I haven't done much reading on discipline yet, but I would recommend The No Cry Discipline Solution and  Adventures in Gentle Discipline based on the authors. Try the library for all of them - I never buy a book until I've read it at least once. There are some real stinkers out there in the parenting section.

  • Don't overthink it. It's not a set of step by step rules you must follow or you get kicked out of the club. Do your best to attend to your child's needs and be a loving, available parent. That's all.

What SnoopyLuv said.  Smile  I actually came over to this board just to see what it was all about.  I didn't know my "style" had a name.  I still laugh a little thinking that parenting has a "style" as I never gave it much thought either.  Welcome to the board.  It's full of great advice, great thoughts and ideas, etc.
