First ever working mom mental health day

I can't believe I've been a working mom for one year and today is the very first day I have taken a day off but sent DS to the sitter. We traveled out of town the past two weekends in a row to visit family, plus we don't have a housecleaner right now because our budget is tight. So I definitely have some work to do around here and an extra day off is really going to help.

So far it's been great! I kissed DH and DS goodbye around 7:30, watched a little morning news, took the dogs for a nice long walk, and now I'm drinking coffee and eating a little breakfast. The laundry baskets are in the living room ready to be sorted, and I have one weird errand to run today - finding a replacement for my broken vacuum cleaner belt.

Have you taken a whole day off just to yourself? I can't believe I haven't done this before!

I've done it a few times. I often end up running out of time to do everything I want to do and wish I could schedule another mental health day to get through the list

I just put clothes into a hamper without two chubby little hands taking every third item back out. Amazing! Although I'm pretty sure I am going to run out of time too. I always over-commit my free time, even if it's just in my own mental to-do list.

Every so often I work a Saturday shift and take Monday as a flex day. Sometimes I will send DD to daycare and take a day to myself. I love to go shopping and just take my time looking for things. That and laying in bed watching tv and doing some really good cooking.

I used to do it, but now my SO works until 3am, so sleeps until 11-12ish. So I tiptoe and walk on eggshells to avoid waking him up.

Thank you for posting this today...this is just what I needed to hear (read) today. I have been trying so hard to get things done at home in preparation for DD's arrival and DS basically undoes them as I go

I work M-W-F and I think I'm going to pay for one extra day of daycare next week, so I can have that day to just catch up at home. I am trying so hard to save up my vacation & sick days at work for maternity leave that I have not been able to use them. I think that paying for that extra day of daycare once in a while may just save my sanity

I can't do it...because DH is the SAH parent because of his work schedule. I'd be home with them both! I will say that they have both gone to my ILs a few times, so I came home after work to an empty house. I went CRAZY cleaning the place!

I'm thinking I'm going to need one of these soon. I would probably end up cleaning as well but it would still feel like a vacation. There just aren't enough hours in the weekend to get everything done.

DH and I try to do one hooky day together a year. We don't have a "babysitter" per se so daycare is our only respite. This summer we're planning on bringing DS to daycare and going to a baseball game in our city's new stadium! Very excited! Last summer I instituted my own "summer fridays". I would come in early then skip lunch and take a half day so I could get all my weekend chores done sans kid and husband under foot- grocery shopping, cleaning the house, etc. It made for some wonderful carefree weekends!

So far, I've had one day. I took DD to daycare later than usual, but had a good 4 hours all to myself. I did tons of laundry and cleaning.

I should have taken some time to do something just for me, but it went by so quickly, I never got around to it.

I have done this a couple of times. They've been few and far between, but they are always SO worth it. I am taking another day on the 27th of this month and for the morning, DS is going to day care so I can sleep in and just take my time getting ready, then I'm going to pick him up and take him to the zoo. So basically a half and half day : )

I did it before prebaby. Have yet to do it since then. It sounds very nice though.

I am taking two days off next week. ONe day to go on a date with DH to like a movie and lunch or something and then the other to be all by myself. I will do some cleaning, whatever is on the schedule for the day. I sometimes pick DD up early but DH is funny, he likes picking her up so I let him do it like normal. I am super excited too!
