We managed to get a LL Bean Kelty for $15 at a yard sale, we really like it. Its an older model so after a while or when its steep it hurts your shoulders a bit but Camden was comfy riding in it until he was 2 & didnt like being carried.
We're going to start William in it in a few weeks, cant wait to take the kids hiking.

I don't like big bulky carriers so when DD was small I hiked with her in my knock-off Moby, which wasn't as stretchy. I recently got a Mei Tai and I will use that to hike with DS until I get my custom Onbuhimo carrier in.
We have a Kelty also. I love it....it is comfortable for both me and DH and Hannah lives it. It also has enough room in a pouch for a few diapers, wipes and a change of clothes.
We have the Deuter Kid Comfort 3. We are both very tall and felt it fit us the best. My friend who is shorter also wore DS when we were snowshoeing and she was able to adjust it nicely to fit her.
Add us to the Kelty club! We have a Kelty FC 3.0 Trail Carrier (Similar, if not the same, to this one) We bought it off zulily last year before J was even born and just got to try it out 2 weeks ago. Like PP said, ours has three pouches for storage and came with a sun screen plus a changing pad (with pockets). Granted it is bigger and not really needed for 1-2 hr hikes or So but for longer trips it's definitely worth it. Plus you automatically have somewhere for your child to sit once you take the pack off.
