EBF, minipill, period?

DD is just over seven weeks old, and I started the minipill last Monday. I EBF (DD nurses every two to three hours), and I am very diligent about taking my pill on time every day.

Yesterday, I got my period. At least, I'm pretty sure it's my period. Heavier than spotting, and I have cramps. I haven't had any PP bleeding in about 3 weeks. I am super bummed.

Has anyone else had this happen? And if so, did your periods continue regularly from there, or was it an isolated occurrence?

  • I didn't get my period with DD on the minipill and EBFing until I started weaning her at six months and haven't had it with this one yet, either.  I'm sorry for you!

  • Yep, I got mine at 4 1/2 weeks PP after starting the minipill. I am EBF and take the pill at same time! It was heavy, red bleeding with cramps and dr. thought it was period.  It lasted 5 days.   Not sure if it will continue each month, or if that was isolated.  It sucked to get it so early!!

  • My sister and I EBF'd and got our periods back quickly (neither took the minipill). Sucks ;). It takes a while for your body to regulate itself so you might get another period in 28-32 days but don't freak out if your don't. Mine came every 60 days (til I got pg again). My sisters are generally every 30 days.

  • i started the minipill last week and friday i thought i started my period.  i EBF and was p!ssed to see it come so early. but now it appears to just be spotting?  my cycles usually start with a day or so of spotting, so i'm still unsure.  oh and it's been several weeks since i had any pp bleeding too.

i hope this is isolated!  it took like 17 or 18 months to come back with DD1 (i weaned shortly after her birthday).  i was really hoping...

  • Thanks ladies. Guess we're the lucky ones, huh?

To add to my frustration, my cervix is still a little low from delivery, and I'm having trouble with tampons. I. HATE. PADS!! Ugh.
