C-sections

going into labor before scheduled section?

I have a section scheduled in 2 weeks because baby is still breech. I have been having contractions all day and they are starting to hurt more, when would I go to the hospital? I don't want to go in just so they will send me home, but if a section is scheduled do they just do it early? It's a Sunday, so if I call the on call they will tell me to go in no matter what. Need advice/experience with this please. :)

Re: going into labor before scheduled section?

  • First off, you are always better to be safe then sorry.  So I think you should go in, tell them you have a scheduled c section.  This happened to me.  I was sick at 35 weeks preggo so I went to the ER for saline, I knew I was badly dehydrated and it wasn't good for baby.  Low and behold I went in and I was in labor and 4 cm dilated with my water broke, I explained my scheduled c section and bam had one 3 weeks early!  Good luck

  • My water broke and i went into labor the night before my scheduled c/s - my LO was breech too. My contractions were bad but not horrible. When I got to the hospital an hour later I was already 5cm dilated and they had to move up my c/s. I delivered her 3 hours after my water broke, and was told if it was a vaginal delivery I would have had her around the same time. So personally, I think it's better to be safe, especially with a breech baby. I would go in.

  • My water broke about 5 days before my scheduled repeat section.  They did it that night at 11pm.  If you are having contractions, regularly call the on call doc.
  • I say go in if you haven't already! My daughter was breech and I had a scheduled section. My doctor told me to let them know right away if I went into labor. She said that with a breech baby there was a possibility that the umbilical cord could enter the birth canal before the baby and that that would be risky. It ended up not being an issue for me because I didn't go into labor before the section. Congrats on your new baby if she or he's born soon!

  • I had my c/s scheduled for a Wednesday. On the Sunday before, I lost my mucus plug and had stronger contractions and cramping. In hindsight, I should have gone to the hospital that day, but I'd been contracting since 23 weeks, so I wasn't overly cautious. We ended up going to the hospital at 3:30 a.m. Monday morning and I was 4 cm dilated and 100% effaced, and LO was engaged. They immediately called my OB and I had delivered my baby by 5:20 a.m. by c/s. It was pretty rushed, so next time I'll be heading to the hospital sooner and playing it safe!
