XP: going into labor before scheduled section?

I have a section scheduled in 2 weeks because baby is still breech. I have been having contractions all day and they are starting to hurt more, when would I go to the hospital? I don't want to go in just so they will send me home, but if a section is scheduled do they just do it early? It's a Sunday, so if I call the on call they will tell me to go in no matter what. Need advice/experience with this please. :)

  • Depends on dr etc.... But if I went into labor (also planned c-sec in a few weeks) they would just do it early. There is a point, maybe 34 weeks, that they don't stop labor.... So if your in it, they'll do the c-section

  • Call your doctor.  I'm in the same boat.  I have a c-section scheduled and they don't want me to go into active labor.  My dr gave me a whole list of 'if this happens, come in...' and they'll take him out.   I spent two days in the hospital last week.  My blood sugar went crazy (I have GD), baby wasn't moving and I was having contractions.

  • I'm having my c/s on Thurs because this is my second breech baby. My Dr. will definitely do an early c/s (or whoever is oncall if I had to go in early). Most OB's won't let you deliver a breech baby anymore. It is too risky

  • Does anyone know how close together the contractions need to be for them to do the c section? I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow so it's not really too early.

  • I don't think it is a matter of how close they are, they could be 12 minutes apart, but if they are causing your cervix to change and are happening regularly (for more than an hour) they will most likely do the c-section.  I would call the OB, how far apart are they?

About 10 minutes apart right now, but don't really hurt too bad.

  • If you are that worried that you are in labour, call them or go in. If you are in labour (doesnt matter how far) they will do the section instead of trying to stop anything at 37 weeks.

  • I spent a day at the hospital last week. I have a 2nd repeat c section scheduled for the 27th, I have been having contractions and stabbing pains in my vagina.... fun:)  I haven't been able to see my doctor for over two weeks and at 37 weeks haven't had my cervix checked so my doctor told me to have them check me at the hospital... she is between offices...after leaving the practice she was with... what a nightmare... anyway... I thought... ok... I will just get checked... I was having contractions 7min apart for an hour or so... but after checking my cervix and it not being dilated... they gave me a couple bags of fluid... made me lay still... ect. the contractions slowed and stopped and five hours later I got to go home, on with the day... immediately upon moving around, leaving the hospital... the contractions picked back up, but unless I am sure I am in active labor, I am not heading to the hospital... it sucks!  Even with this scheduled c-section, I am still playing the waiting game... I will be shocked if this baby waits for the 27th...
  • They were very clear with me after my cerclage was removed (and baby was still not confirmed to be head-down) that if I had regular, timeable contractions I was to go to L&D for evaluation.  If I was in active labor and there was evidence of cervical change, then they would have to check baby's position again and if baby wasn't head-down, then it would be time for a c-section.

They can definitely do the c-section earlier, if necessary.

  • I'd probably give your doctor a call and see what they think. At birthing class they told us to head to the doctor when contractions were five minutes apart, lasting a minute long, for one hour. But of course that is for a vaginal birth. It never hurts to give a call. Who knows! Your little one could be here soon! :)
