any maternity /L&D nurses or doctors out there?

Just wondering how often you've seen uterine ruptures or placenta accreta cases out there. I googled (which i shouldn't have) and it seems so terrifying. But how common is this really? Not sure if dh and i will try for a 4th child. If we do, it will be in 4-5 years. My last c/s, my dr said i had a very thin uterus that she was able to see fluid before she cut through it. She also said i had adhesions, which she removed during the surgery. However, at my last appt, she said it would still be okay for ne to get pregnant again but would refer me to a perinatologist.

  • I am a L and D nurse and work in a high risk OB unit.  I can tell you that if your OB stated that you had thin uterus with adhesion, she would be correct in referring you to a perinatologist.  Ruptures do happen, not frequently, but it is a risk.  Placenta accreta is more common.  This is where the placenta attaches to somewhere it's not supposed to, often times, the bladder.  This could cause more bleeding during and after delivery.  If you are considering having another child, I would probably suggest you making an appt with a perinatologist to discuss whether or not you should consider getting pregnant, based on your specific case. Hope this helps.

i understand referring me to a perinatologist but i don't know about giving me the "okay" on another pregnancy. I feel as if she was giving me the green light. She knows I want a 4th but given my condition, I figured she would advise against it, which she didn't..so it kinda gives me some hope. Thanks for the input!

  • I'm a maternity nurse. I agree with PP- it is rare, but it happens. When it happens, it's bad.  So, listen to your doctors advice and just try to be really in tune with the way you are feeling and what is going on with your body during your pregnancy and watch for signs and symptoms of something going wrong.

  • I was told I had a very thin uterus with my 2nd c/s.  The dr that did it advised to wait a few years before trying again.  She also said they would take the baby via c/s no later than 38 weeks due to the thin uterus.

I am currently 18 weeks and the middle child will be 3 yr. 4 months when the baby is due.
