XP: Inexpensive Manual/Hand Pump Recommendations

XP from BFing

Hi ladies-

We found out recently that B has reflux and she's been refusing the breast here and there, depending on if she's having a flare up (I think it's the discomfort of laying flat to eat that makes her not want to do it).  I typically keep my electric pump at work so I'd love to have an inexpensive manual/hand pump at home for the days she has a nursing strike and I need to pump off one side or the other. Any recommendations?

BFP #1- 4/2011; DD Brynn born 12/2011

BFP #2- 7/13; EDD- 4/2/14; Lost DS at 20 weeks (11/16/13) due to cord accident

BFP #3- 3/14; EDD- 11/28/14; Lost DD at 15 weeks (6/7/14)- cause unknown

To my angels- I held you every second of your lives and I'll love you every second of mine.

  • No recs here, but when I have a forceful letdown or when he's been spitting up a lot, I put C on my lap (straddling the thigh on the side he's going to eat from) and nurse him upright -- it works well for us. Maybe you could try something like that? Otherwise, I think Medela makes a manual pump that's less than $40.

Great suggestion- we'll have to give that a try!  Thanks!

  • Someone gave me my manual pump, so I don't know how much it costs...but it's the Avent one and works well for me.

  • I have the Medela manual pump.  I love it.  I got it at Walgreens for about $35.  I like it more then my double electric :)
