1/2 marathon training...

So last Saturday I did my first ever 10 mile run.  OMG was I so sore later that night!
I have completed 6, 7, 8, 9 miles in my training.  Today I did an 8 mile and am literally not sore.  I feel like I did yesterday after running 4.  I guess I am getting in better shape!

Re: 1/2 marathon training...

  • Good for you! I am almost 9wks PP and can't wait to get back into running shape again! (C-section..have yet to find time to work out since my doc cleared me for exercise). I was way out of shape before I got pg so it going to be a long road ahead..but my goal is another half in Jan!

Even though I've only run one half, I've been a runner since I was little (I did my first kids 1K when I was like 3 LOL). My grandma has done almost 30 marathons and she always told me that once you get past 8, everything is easy (for a half, she says the bench mark is 15 for the full I think). So you made it to 10! Everything is a piece of cake from here!

  • Remember to do a really good stretch session after each time you run.  It prevents injury.  Congrats!!

  • Congratulations!!! When I trained for my first half, I was sore after each long run right up to half and beyond. Though, now I can run a half and am  not sore after (I have done a dozen halfs over the last year and a half). I really recommend ice baths (the water just needs to be about 15 degrees lower than your body temp, not actually freezing), compression socks or tights, and getting up and walking after you have rested.
