Traveling! Recommend your AWESOME baby carriers... please :)

I will be traveling to Egypt sometime in July and can't afford a third seat for LO and will not be taking the car-seat along. I need your recommendations on the most awesome baby carrier out there. I need one that is very comfortable for mama and baby as it will be worn for long periods of time. Also need to be able to sit down in it, and baby needs to be able to sleep in it. TIA!

  • I just used the Gemini to travel and was very happy with it. We're waiting to try the pikkolo before we purchase though.

  • Loading the player...
  • We took a basic peanut shell sling all over italy. Awesome and lightweight and doesn't take up space.

  • we have boba and love it...traveled with it and it was a life saver.
  • Was thinking about the ergo as far as comfort goes. Are slings uncomfortable when worn for long periods? I like that i could BF in one... The fancier carriers are going to be a pain for BF.

  • I just carried LO all over Bermuda in the Ergo. It was wonderful!

  • I can BF DD in our Ergo. It is easier to do if I am sitting, but I have done it once in awhile where I was up and walking around.

We have a Kozy Carrier (mei tai style), Ergo Organic and Maya Wrap Ring Sling. I like them all, but I think the Ergo is the most comfortable for extended wear. The other two are smaller/easier to pack though.

  • I'm in love with my Boba. I've tried Snugli, Moby, Mei Tai, slings, Boba is definitely my fav. Easy to use, great support, comfy.

  • Nursing in the Gemini was really easy when standing but I couldn't do it sitting. I had to take DD out of the carrier when I sat on the plane anyway so it wasn't a big deal.

  • You could combine: When I was in China last year (DD was 10 months), I brought a wrap and the Beco. The wrap was great for long walks and she slept really well in it. The Beco is great for the plane trip where you need to take LO up and down all the time for example for security. Plus DH did not use the wrap, so he was confined to the Beco. I was able to BF in both. Good luck and happy travels!

  • I think a sling would make my back hurt after a while.  All the weight on one shoulder!  I have an Obimama mei tai that I love.  Easy to BF in & comfy.  I think you'd be good in any wrap, MT, or soft-structured carrier (Ergo).

  • I would get a Kinderpack in the infant size.

I am a wrapper at heart, but for ease I would go with the KP in a heartbeat. The straps are padded, the waist is padded and there is a chest strap. It is super easy for up/down and I love that I can leave it hanging from my waist and nothing drags on the ground. The hood is perfect for naps and (with some practice) you can discreetly nurse in there. (I like to wear the straps crossed in back when nursing.)  I could wear my 2 y/o in the KP for hours and not feel the strain on my back (well, before I got PG at least:) )

You can buy new or used on TBW website. They hold value really, really well.

  • We can't live without the Ergo performance in this house.  I am starting to get the hang of nursing in it also.  I have a ring sling and a mei tai as well, but the ergo is definately my favorite.

  • Thanks for all your replies guys! Really helpful. I'm probably going to go with the Ergo or something similar cause my back hurts pretty easily, but will probably also get the Maya wrap later on just because :)  Thank you all so much.
