Preemies

My little preemie is home!

Emily, my 3lb 8oz IUGR baby, came home yesterday after a 2-week NICU stay. We had a great first night together! DD#1 was so excited to meet her baby sister and immediately said "I better read her a story!"

We had wonderful care while in the NICU and I would like to do something nice for the staff there. Any suggestions? I'm not sure if they have any food- related rules, so my best idea was flowers and a nice card.

  • Congrats on bringing your little girl home!  I'm not sure about the NICU rules.  We are in the small babies unit of our NICU, and they don't allow flowers in there.  Might be different where you are.  The did allow me to bring in a basket of Easter candy for the nurses, and the nurses all commented on how much they LOVE chocolate, so that might be an idea :)

  • congrats on bringing her home - what a cutie pie she is and her sister too.  Im not sure about your NICU but in ours hey loved food! lol I brought cupcakes and cookies and all sorts of stuff while we were there (they took it all straight to the lounge - no food in the bays with the babies) - and when we left we brought a few gifts for her main caretakers like giftcards and chocolates etc.

  • Congrats on bringing your angel home!

We took the NICU staff a lot of cookies, cakes and fudge. Fresh flowers were not allowed in the ICU.

We are taking some goodies into the NICU staff on Aiden's due date (5/4/12) so that they can see our little miracle man!

  • Congrats on the homecoming!  I've taken cookies, cinnamon rolls, brownies basically any treats were very well received.  Like someone else mentioned fresh flowers were not allowed in our NICU.
  • Thanks for the heads-up on the flowers! I may need to ask an acquaintance of mine who is a NICU nurse there what the policies are. My other thought is that we could donate to their team for the upcoming March for Babies.

  • Congrats on bringing your baby home! Food was always a hit in our NICU as well - and don't forget the night shift!  (I always brought double everything and specified that half was to be saved for the night crew!)

  • My DH and I were wanting to do something for the NICU as well.  We thought maybe a donation of clothes for the babies, or something.  Claire wasn't there TOO long (12 days) but we still wanted to show our appreciation for all that they do.

  • That's great! Enjoy your LO at home!

As far as the staff, we just wrote out cards for each of the primaries that DS had and since he went home around Halloween, we gave them a chocolate egg. We would have done more, but I don't think they are allowed to receive elaborate presents from patients and their families.
