3 different carriers and DS hates them all...Am I doing something wrong?

Hi all....I have been lurking on this board for a little while now and have gotten some good info by just reading some of the posts.

Anyway, on to my question. I have tried 3 different carriers (Moby, Ring Sling and Baby Bjorn) and DS screams when I put him in all 3 of them. He is 5 weeks old and I've been trying to "wear" him since we came home from the hospital.

I have tried putting him in a carrier as soon as he's done with a feeding when he's "milk drunk" and that didn't work either. He is incredibly alert and loves to look around and know what's going on. Being that he is so young he needs to face me, making it hard for him to look around. I'm just wondering if it's something I'm doing wrong when I'm putting him in these carriers or if it's simply b/c he can't see everything.

TIA!

  • Babies are sometimes hard to read aren't they?  He may be uncomfortable or feel unsecure, he may actually not like them, or he may just need to be in one and also moving.  I know when DD was very young we used a ring sling and she preferred the tummy to tummy carry and always wanted to be moving, so she was content if I was on a physio ball and bouncing or we were walking around but would not allow me to sit down.  I think the best thing is to keep trying :)

  • Not all babies want to be worn.  It may be hard to do, but you may have to adjust to his preferences for now.

Not sure if I'm doing this right (bumping from iPod) but anyways. I agree on trying again. He's still pretty young. I tried the Moby with DD and she did not like it, I think it was too hot for her & she's a hot baby. I tried the Bjorn and was a little fussy at first but I'd put her in there for 5 minutes every couple of days & she loved it. Even more so now that she can look out. GL!

  • I loved using the Moby and bouncing on an excercise ball with LO when she was fussing while being worn...could be worth a try.

  • My lo didn't let me put her in a carrier until this week. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that she can now kind of hold her head up? In the mei tai we are tummy to tummy, but she can still put her head back a little and have a little look around. Give it time. I was in the same boat as you a couple weeks ago, but I am seeing hope for wearing my baby.
  • And just to be even more confusing, one of my girls likes to be in the Bjorn with husband but likes to be physically right next to me.  And she wants to see everything, too.  My other girl is really laid back.

  • I have several different carriers.  Right now LO loves the Moby but it took time to get there.  I would try wearing him for 5 minutes at a time until he got used to it.  I've been working on this with some of the other carriers we have.

The 5 minute rule works for him still. Sometimes he's just fussing because he's tired and falls asleep, other times he's alert and looking around, and sometimes he's just not having any of it.  I play by the 5 minute rule and then remove him it he's still crying.
