I'm judging

Ok, I'm judging the Play at Home Mom people. I love them, I really, do, but how much money do they have to buy all that stuff? and how the eff do they stay so organized? They must totally ignore the kids or lock them up in a secret room to keep the play areas so organized.

hah - I joke. Kind of.

I bought some of the water beads for my LO and they are everywhere. She was doing a great job of TRYING to keep them in the big tupperware bin, but a bunch still got out. and boy do they roll and bounce everywhere. We found more today and I thought I had cleaned it all up.

  • I love them, but I'm constantly feeling like a crappy mom because of them lol. Not really, but yeah, they have amazing houses, fabulous playrooms, and huge yards. I try to set up some of their ideas in my tiny house and it just doesn't work out. They are definitely inspiring though.

And where did you find the water beads? I would love to get some for my DS, even if they do end up all over the floor. :)

  • HA! I love that they are so creative but I am constantly jealous! I think their playroom is roughly the size of my house...my entire house. LOL!

At least they put their money to good use instead of spending it on nannies to care for their children for them or on expensive rigid preschools etc. Right?!

  • Lol - I love them too, I just feel so lame whenever I look at their pictures! And I'm jealous of the cleaning lady. That and I went to buy a bunch of stuff like she has and chickened out because of the price. So now I'll buy some things for one activity- like the beads - but I can't ever see myself stocked like she is. Or they are. I'm thinking of the one families play room and the outside space, which I am totally jealous of.

Fred - that is what my LO started doing too - squeezing the beads and watching them fly. She loves it. I think the beads are going to "disappear" soon though.

Army- I bought them at michaels craft store. They have a lot - I got the ones that are dried and you have to hydrate. It took about six hours to get the hydrated and there are a ton of them.

We have done cloud dough and LO loves it - and she is pretty good about keeping it on the mat ( an old shower curtain) that I have laid out for her.

  • Ah jrez, I just go work in our backyard and let them dig in the dirt. Though I'm planning on going to the thrift store for more outdoor toys to play/dig dirt with...maybe it's because I used to teach art, but I think stuff like that is why preschool was invented!

ETA: Okay, I actually looked at the site, ha ha. I don't think anyone needs that mamy art supplies for their kids, quite honetly. If you save up a whole bunch of food packages/stuff you'd usually recycle, you can use them in crazy art projects. My older son's preschool teacher is doing amazing artwork with his class, and most of it is really basic art supplies (paint, glue, found objects, etc). I'm much more hands-off as a mom, but I do like what they have to say about fostering independenceand letting kids control more of their world.

  • I found some water beads at Dollar Tree.  They only have the clear ones the last I checked.  We have been doing some sensory bins when I'm motivated.  My DD really likes them.  I have been lazy lately because it is so hard to pick up all the pieces off the floor.  I think it will help my sanity when I'm nursing and can set DD up with a bin though!  I would so love their play room but I agree with PP.  Their playroom is definitely as big as my main living space in my house.  We unfortunately don't have a play room so we make do with what we have.

  • I feel totally out of it...never heard of the site or waterbeads. But now I have something to do to help me stay awake for the baby's next feeding.

Ditto. DD just got a brand-new shipment of Scholastic books in English (rare thing here) from school this week and all she has wanted to do is sit on the sofa and read them. Very low mess activity!

Glad I'm not the only one. :)

  • The water beads are really cool.

I only know about the site because someone on this board posted about it. I think the thread was about sensory activities. It was a while back. But I follow them on Facebook - the play at home mom page - and they post photos all the time. Hence my " judging" ;)

  • I think that they may be "gifted" somethings, so that the will talk about it on the blog.

  • They are a bit over the top with how much stuff they have and the 24/7 focus on the kids, but there are some great ideas. I want to make a "light table" with some christmas lights and a plastic bin. I never would have thought about that by myself.
  • Just a tip about the waterbeads- I put DS in the empty bathtub and let him go to town with the bin of them. It is so much easier to clean up!
