Cloth Diapering

Doctor's note

I went to check out a daycare yesterday and they said they will use cloth diapers if we get a doctor's note. Has anyone needed one of these? Did your doctor mind writing one? We don't have a medical reason to CD, but will happily lie to get a note if I need to!

Re: Doctor's note

  • I've heard of it. I doubt your pedi would mind. When we were using sposies and disposable wipes in the NB stage, LO kept getting a rash and our pedi actually asked us to try using cloth wipes.  That's when I knew I loved her, lol.

  • I've heard of this, but it doesn't make sense to me. However I think most pedis would be okay writing one.

  • What I've been told is that most doctor's don't mind because its not for drugs and to them it doesn't matter.

Doesn't make sense to me either. If they're happy to do it with dr's note, not sure why they wouldn't just do it anyway. I'll ask our pedi at our 4 month appointment.

  • Have you considered a different DC if that's an option?  When i was looking, I got a lot of centers not wanting to do cloth or just dodging the question.  When i asked my current DC, they quickly replied "whatever you do at home, we will accommodate here to make it as comfortable as possible" that's when i knew I had found my DC.  They had never had a cloth baby before but were willing to try and it's worked out ever since.  There's a new cloth baby in the infant room that just started a few weeks ago.  The DC workers were even making suggestions on what diapers to bring to the new mom who was asking based on what my stash looks like.

  • We had to get a Dr. note to use cloth diapers at our daycare (a KinderCare). I thought it was the dumbest thing ever, but it's corporate policy - something to do with OSHA. I was mortified to call the pedi and ask, and of course they thought it was hilarious. I mean, it's not like the pedi offered us a class in the proper cleaning of cloth diapers or even care what we use. Whatever. The Dr. faxed a note over, and daycare has been using cloth for us ever since.

We haven't picked a dc yet, since I'm still job hunting. But, I really liked this one. The thing is that they were really positive about cloth diapering and some of the other babies were in cds, but they still wanted a dr's note.

  • I asked my pedi at her two week appt.  She said she would write one but wouldn't say that she needed them due to an allergy.  I figure a Doctors note is a Doctors note and DC should honor it and really shouldn't even question why.

I actualy found a DC (inhome) that is doing them.  She is a little funny about the wetbag; she still puts the dipes in a grocery bag first.  I am trying to teach her that it isn't needed but she thinks it is "gross".  I guess she has never heard of a wet bag before.  =o)

I had DD in a OS diaper the other day instead of her Tot Bots Tini Fit.  She barely had the velco attached.  The gaps at my DDs legs were HUGE!  LOL...  luckily she didn't leak everywhere.  I'm sure my DC lady will learn quickly that she needs to make them fit a little better!

Depending on where you live, some states only allow CDs with a doctor's note. They may not have a choice even if they are CD friendly.
