Does this sound too much like a nickname? My first thought is that it is spunky! But then I wonder if it IS a nn? Perhaps it's the "ie" on the end. What do you think?

It is a NN. It's a NN for Sarah. I like it on its own.
But, I like it for personal association reasons. I knew a darling little girl with this name, however, I fear it won't age well. And, Sadie will be an adult much longer than she'll be an adorable little girl.
It is my 6.5 yos dd's name, so I like it obviously. I have met some adult Sadies who are successful, including one pulling in 7 figures/ yr as an investment banker, so I don't think her name has held her back professionally.
I reject the "dog name" argument because a lot of popular human names are also dog names, like Max and Lucy and Molly. Those are human names people use on dogs. Dog names are Rex and Fido.
But it is more popular than I had realized when I picked it. It suits her well, but I might have gone with something a little more distinctive if I had known. There is definitely more than one at the playground sometimes. But it isn't like Sophia or Ava.
I really like it, especially as a nn for Sarah. I agree that it is a spunky name. But there are a ton of dogs with this name, so just be prepared for that. We have a dog Sadie, and everytime we are in the vet waiting room, there is at least one other Sadie there! PP is right though, a lot of human names are used for dogs.
I think it ages fine. There are lots of old ladies that go by Sadie. I think it is a cute name and I think it is fine as a stand alone name. It is a very popular dog name so I'd avoid it if that bothers you.

This!! only, I am a Sadie and don't have one. I am also 21 and have never been mistaken for a dog, and I have had a pretty easy time agin, haha. When I was growing up, it was a lot less common, but besides the fact that I couldn't get pens and rulers with my name on it like my friends samantha and jennifer could, I always loved my name, and have never been teased because of it hurrah!

All I can think of is a stinky black dog that lived next door, sorry. I like the name Sara with the nickname Sadie.

I didn't know Sadie is a nn for Sarah. I had always thought it was a stand-alone name as well.
I like it. I also get a "spunky" feel from it!
