Cloth Diapering

New to board - gDiapers?

Ok . . . so I know they are not completely cloth diapers, but more of a hybrid.

Here is my delema . . . I always imagined I'd use cloth diapers.  It was a no brainer.  But DH does 99% of the laundry.  He said he had no problem if we used cloth but refused to wash the cloth diapers in the house.  He would only "support" cloth diapers if we got a diaper service to clean them.  The problem is, I have not been able to find a diaper service that services our area.  UG!!!!

I randomly came across gDiapers . . . they seem like a good alternative.  Just curious if anyone has used them?  What did you like?  Not like?  Cost-wise . . . does it cost more or less (over time) compaired to traditional cloth or disposable.

Thanks for the input.

At 20-week anatomy scan found IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction), and very low Amniotic Fluid.  Now, I'm High Risk and have weekly ultrasounds to monitor fluid and growth.  If baby runs out of room or is too growth restricted, they will deliver ASAP.  My current goal is to make it to 28 weeks!

  • Pros - they have good marketing

Cons - just about everything. They cost more money, are not environmentally friendly if you're just going to use the disposable inserts, the covers are not waterproof, most people end up with leaks, etc. Going full on cloth is a much better alternative.

That being said, I'm sure there are a few that will chime in that they work for them.

This. I highly suggest you don't use them. They are a PITA and will have you doing more laundry than regular CDs because of all the leaks.

Cloth diapers in a washing machine is no different than washing LO's (and your!) clothes to get out spit-up, drool, projectile poops, surprise pees, baby food, etc. There will be bodily fluids in your washer. The clothes will get clean and it will happen again. No big deal.

So... Might as well get some adorable, good quality CDs! It's just one more load of laundry. You may surprise yourself- I LOVE my CD laundry. I don't like DH to touch it.

    GL!

  • I used them when DD was a newborn. They aren't great. I used cloth inserts though. If you are going to use the disposible inserts I don't really see the point. It isn't hard to wash your CD. It just takes a few tries and then you get the hang of it. I would just use prefolds for a newborn then AIO or pocket diapers once they get to be a few months old.

  • Also, as for leaks, we didn't have any until baby was about 1 month old. Their inserts aren't that absorbant so I guess the little bit of pee she had as a NB were ok but after 4 weeks, they did leak.

  • Thanks for the replies!

After doing some more research I see that the disposable inserts cost MORE than disposable!  So silly!

Although I liked the idea that I could flush the disposable inserts.  It makes sence to me to put poop and pee in the toilet!

Thanks for the advise about doing the CD laundry at home.  Unfortunitally this is a battle I am loosing with DH!  He never tells me "no", so I know he feels really strongly about this and doesn't want to deal with the laundry.  Again, he does a majority of it, so I don't have alot of say in the matter.  I still have a few months to work on him though!  LOL!

  • You could always use the argument that poop/pee/and even puke will end up in your washer anyway. The kid is bound to have a blowout/leak and get sick at some point in its infant life.
