Baby Carriers-Last Time (from me) I promise!

DS is quickly outgrowing his car seat carrier and obviously isn't big enough to sit in a shopping cart. This is leaving me a bit lost. I haven't really desired having a carrier up until this point. I purchased a cheapo one a few weeks ago (mainly to see how much I'd use it before taking the plunge). I'm not so crazy about-and really didn't expect to be since it was under $20.

So now I'm considering taking the plunge. Of all the carriers which do you think I'd get the most use out of? DS is already nearing 20 lbs. I'll probably use it most on casual trips to the store. I'm short (5'0) and don't want anything that's going to wear me.

  • I love my ring sling from Sleeping Baby Productions (google for website) and we'll be getting an Ergo Sport soon.

  • If I could have any carrier, it would be the Ergo. We have a Baby Bjorn that was given to us and I've used it a handful of times. My only complaint with the Bjorn is that it's hot! We live in South Florida so it gets pretty hot and sweaty if I wear it for too long. I'd prefer the breathable mesh version.

If you have a Buy Buy Baby near you, they have a whole bunch of different carriers that you can try out.

Go with whichever one works best for you.

  • We LOVE our Ergo Performance Carrier! I purchased it after pouring over reviews about all different carriers for weeks and I am very happy with my choice!

  • I am 5'1" and like my Beco Gemini.  I tried a borrowed ergo but it felt bulky on me.

  • Ring sling is my favorite. We ditched the infant seat a while ago since I was wearing dd more than using the carrier. I love my maya wrap.

I also have a boba carrier (like the ergo and beco) which may be a better option for you if you want a more structured carrier. Fwiw, I use mine in a back carry with my 30 lb toddler regularly.

  • I use the Moby wrap because I can BF in it while walking around the store and no one knows what I am doing. My DH has the snugride backpack. He uses it all the time. It is even comfortable for my mom who is 5 ft and a little heavy.

  • I mainly use the Moby but will probably get either a beco or a boba when it starts getting warmer. Please be wary of 'crotch danglers' like the bjorn. The way the hold babies has been said to be bad for their hips and spines.

  • We love our ergo.

  • Another vote for the ergo. Beco butterfly or Gemini is also a good choice.
