Doula Hired!

My DH and I met with our doula last night and I am so excited about her. She is soooo sweet and knowledgeable and It makes me feel more comfortable this time around knowing that I will have someone with me that is there 100% for ME! I didn't have one last time. I was young and naive then and didn't know what to do or prepare for, but this time I know better. Cool

What you get for the low price of a doula seems very reasonable to me. Feeling very content today Smile

Are you hiring a doula? Why or why not? Have you ever used one before? Just curious what everyone else is doing.

I do want to hire one but the one I had in mind is going to be too busy this fall. I don't know if I want to look for another one or not. I already have a friend lined up to be my support person. She isn't a doula but is a licensed massage therapist.

I am definitely hiring a doula. I have on in mind, but DH graduates with his Masters in a few weeks and doesn't have a job offer yet, so we are waiting until he gets a full time job because it could be here or out of state(this waiting period is driving me NUTS!!)

Are you planning a hospital, birthing center, or home birth?

Oh wow, hope he will get an offer soon! We're planning a home birth. There aren't any birthing centers in our area so we will only go to the hospital if a complication arises. Im very low risk, so we're hoping for the best!

I hope so too! Its coming down to the wire and feeling panicky is something Im trying to avoid feeling LOL

We are talking about a home birth as well, although here its illegal to have one with a midwife or doctor present. The doula I am looking at though has tons of experience with complications (such as a cervical lip) and she was trained under a midwife. We are definitely trying to decide, the closest birthing center is an hour away and I am not willing to drive that far. Obviously if we move out of state, Ill be able to get a midwife for a home birth and then as long as we have no complications that will be what we want to do for sure.

I am not hiring a doula,

My mother was a labor and delivery nurse for over 20 years and still works in nursing so I am counting on her for the medical advice and my husband for the support. Hiring a doula is something that never crossed my mind.

I'd like to, but I'm still waiting; probably once I start classes at our birthing center I'll check more into it, as they have some highly recommended ones. Of course, I'm REALLY hoping to get my sister out here from MN. She's not "officially' a doula, but short of the license, she is one, and attends dozens of births a year!

I'm hiring a doula as well. I've talked to three over the phone already, and have plans to meet up with one of them soon. I'm pretty sure I'll be going with her, but want to meet face to face before committing.

I have no interest in a doula. This is my third deliver and I work in the medical field. I have delivered babies myself, so there is not much to surprise me.

I am not. I have no desire to labor without drugs so I feel I do not need that support. My mom is a massage therapist who will help me out pre-epidural, and the epidural will take over at some point. Smile

I would like to hire a doula, but I'm not sure how feasible it will be. We'll be moving out of state when I'm about 28 weeks, so I'm not sure if all the doulas the area will be booked up by then. We'll see what happens.

We've had one for both labours, and will have one again. I will never labour without one.

After being present at a lot of births with my work, there is no way I wouldn't hire a doula! It's a must for me and my husband. He will need her too.
