Who's retired the swing?

We transitioned Luke to his crib for naps over 2 months ago. He literally lived in his swing for the 1st few months. Now I'm noticing that we rarely use it. My DD unplugged it a few weeks ago and it hasn't even been plugged back in. Since he started sitting up unassisted, he has no interest in being confined in that swing.

So, who has packed it up? I'm not sure why, but this is so hard for me!! DS is our last baby and putting away that swing seems so final. Sad But oh what I could do with that space!

Re: Who's retired the swing?

  • I got rid of it when we transitioned to the crib so we would stay strong. We had a lady over to buy the bassinet and we threw in the swing too. We live in a tiny house, so I was not sad to see either of them go.

  • I thought we had pretty much retired it but then DS got sick this week and couldn't breathe lying down (and the crib wedge wasn't helping).  It was exactly what he needed to get to sleep

  • Its retired, I had to make room for jumperoo.  However DH has not put it away yet Super Angry, so both jumperoo and swing are in our tiny livingroom.
  • Ours has been retired for a couple months, DS was too heavy--it wouldn't swing anymore!  It made me sad too. :(

  • LO hasn't used it in quite a while.  Now that he's sitting up, I think it would be frustrating for him.  Yesterday I took off the cover and washed it and wiped down the whole thing.  The problem is that we literally have no where to store it in our loft.  There aren't even any closets here.  I guess the best thing to do is to sell it...but I don't wanna.  Too many cute memories. ...but the space...aaah....the space...

Nice to know our little guys made it past the ol' swing 'n' swaddle stage.  Lol!  There was a point when I was beginning to worry.

This is EXACTLY how I'm feeling. I'm so torn. It's just sitting there and we don't use it so I know we could make some needed $ off of it, but it's just so sentimental! I guess I have to suck it up.

I mean with the playmat, jumperoo, toys, highchair, and car seat we could really use the room. I'm so ready to get my house back, but this is my last hold to an infant in my home. Sad

  • We haven't used it in awhile, but she's never really been that into it.  I took apart the RnP over the weekend and that made me really sad:(  With her trying to sit up, she just can't go in there anymore.  But that was my go-to place to set her down when I worked in the kitchen for the first five months of her life.  The bouncy needs to be packed up soon too.  Sob.  Now she hangs out in her high chair or her activity center when we're downstairs.

  • we did. neither of the boys ever really liked it, so I just donated to our church nursery.  I was going to sell it because it was in great shape, but I happened to be in the nurser one day and noticed that almost all of their swings were broken in one way or another.

I've been trying to retire it for a month but DD refuses to nap in her crib for more than 20 minutes. She still naps in it although she's definitely too big and it scares the hell out of me when she leans forward in it.  Both kids nap at the same time in the morning and without it they are insane so even though I know I should buck up, put it away and get her to nap in her crib, I can't get myself to do it. I would love to put it away and regain some room (and probably just fill it up with more toys) but I'm not ready for that kind of committment yet.
Yeah... I definitely wouldn't be putting it away. Coordinated naptime is so worth the lack of space from the swing! Although you're right. The space made from getting rid of the swing will just be filled with more toys!! Oh well... The kids rule my house anyway! Wink
  • The swing is alive and well in our house. Henry won't nap for more than  15-20 minutes in his crib and is a very angry bear if he doesn't nap. We spent a week working on the crib napping and at the end of it all we accomplished was me drinking a lot of wine and a baby that was so frazzled he wouldn't sleep at night.

Now we try crib napping on Mondays and if it doesn't go well, we do swing naps the rest of the week. I keep thinking that eventually it will work.

  • Our pediatrician asked us not to use it because of the head shape issues we were having. So we retired it at 4 months. She only semi-liked it anyway. We are still working on the crib transition from being held. We have been moderately successful.

  • Packed it up yesterday to put under the house.  C hasn't been interested in it in ages.  I placed him in it occasionally, but it wouldn't take long until he started fussing.  It's awesome to have that space back!

  • I have been considering moving it down to the basement. He has only been in it a few times this last month and only for short periods of time. He used to love his jumperoo too and would spend 30 mins or more in it several times a day but he doesn't seem to care for that much anymore either.

Levi hasn't been in it in over a month but I use it to put toys on to avoid the dogs eating them. Time for a toy box

I so wish I could do this but my toddler would just empty it out. It would completely defeat the purpose!! Oh and we have a toy box but DS's toys get lost in there. Maybe it's time to purge some toys too. Embarrassed
  • We had ours in the living room early on, then as she got bigger and we used it les and less we moved it to her room. I was JUST thinking yesterday how much I would love to take it down and have that extra room (we haven't used it since she was maybe 2 1/2 months old), but I too cannot bare to take it down just yet. I'm not ready to admit she's that grown up.

Congrats Starbuck :y & HHB on their sweet baby boys!

  • We packed it up at 3months. We only used it to get him to sleep - almost all naps and sometimes nighttime sleep, esp when he first came home - but once we started to ditch the swaddle and move to the crib for all naps, it never got used anymore. He just didn't like hanging out in it when he was awake.

Our living room got much less crowded once it was gone. :)

  • We put it away about 2 months ago as well when we transitioned E to her crib.  I was glad to get that thing in storage though- it was too big and cramping our living room space.  We replaced it with the jumperoo, lol.

  • Ours is packed to free up some space since we weren't using it...but was promptly replaced by a juperoo:)

  • MH Tripped over ours and fell into the part with the motor, it still turned on but something got disconnected and it wouldn't swing anymore... he tried to fix it but couldn't figure out how, so we've been without one for a few months... however she's done fine without it, I have missed it for the longer naps... she would nap 1-2 hours in the swing, and only naps about 30 minutes anywhere else unless I'm holding her, and I do not have time to sit for 1-2 hours for her to get a good nap.  :(

  • I just looked at Dh and said we should probably put the swing and the bouncer away.  He looked at me and said, the swing can stay.  Li never really liked being in it to begin with, I have no idea why he wants to keep it out.  She's loving the bouncer and has been sitting up unassisted for 2 days now, but if he wants it to stay...
