I just bought a really cute white sunhat for my LO at Childrens Place. Not sure if she will let me put it on her, but it will keep the sun off her head and face. I had a hard time finding a 0-6 months size.
this is my first and i would say it depends on where you live.
Our summers can get really hot, but there are a couple of days where it gets down into the 60's so I have a couple just in case, and then my gradma got LO a realy cute sun hat (one that is actually boyish too).
I do have a pack of touques that she can wear when we are at home and the A.C. is on or later at night when it gets chilly out!
Then i bought a white sun hat, that I hope will stay on her, from Old Navy, it was only like $5 - but the brim is big enough to keep the sun off her face! (PLUS it is super cute)
I agree with PP that it depends on where you live - we're in New England, and even though summers can definitely be very hot, there are also chillier evenings when a hat would come in handy. I'm planning on just having a few around, and also getting a sunhat or two to keep the sun out of her eyes.
ETA: You also have to consider air conditioning - if you're going to be out and about in stores, groceries, etc, where it can sometimes be really cold it might be good to have a hat (also to help transition from high heat outside to colder air indoors before LO is used to adjusting his/her body temp).

I got LO a couple sun hats at Once Upon a Child. Janie & Jack and Old Nave for $1.50 each! He'll probably wear cotton hats indoors, untill it gets really warm, and wear the sun hats outdoors for sun protection. I read somewhere that LOs should not wear sunscreen until six months, so shade will be important this summer.

Definately depends on where you live. I live just outside the Rockies and we get that mountain weather. It can be scorching hot during the day and then freezing later in the evening - so I need baby clothes for everything.
I live in south Florida where the nights are hot and the days are even hotter. DD never wore a hat outside of the hospital. Once she was old enough to go to the beach or pool she wore a sun hat, until she was old enough to rip it off. I don't have any hats for DS and will only buy one for when he starts going to the pool or beach.
