Hi ladies,DD ped. perscribed nystatin for her diapee rash and I'm wondering if i need to put a regular cream over top? I didn't ask dr. and some things i read online say to. What were you told? Thank you
I've used it lots and lots for DS (Antibiotics cause yeast infections...) You are only supposed to use Nystatin 4 times a day. Based on the number of diapers you are probably changing you should use a different diaper cream during the other changes. We use Aquaphor. If you have a really bad rash you can alternate hydrocortisne (sp) cream with the nystatin, but you should never mix the nystatin with anything else.
Also if your LO goes to daycare mention they are on nystatin since it stains the diaper a yellowish and they might think something is wrong with your LO.
Nystatin is prescribed for a yeast infection, so other diaper creams will not help rid your LO of that because they are meant for diaper rash, which is different. Especially don't use anything with petroleum jelly (vaseline) in it while LO has a yeast infection, as that traps the skin and prevents the yeast from getting air - airing out is the best thing you can do for getting rid of a yeast infection.
