Let's talk cake

I need to make a cake for the kids joint party this weekend.  The theme is peanut butter and jelly.  I'm thinking of making a couple sheet cakes and cutting them into the shape of a slice of bread.  I have some purple and brown food coloring to tint the frosting, just need to decide on favors.

I don't think grape works on a cake so that's out.

  Peanut butter cake with strawberry or raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream frosting?  Vanilla cake with peanut butter and jelly filling and vanilla buttercream.   Vanilla cake with raspberry or strawberry filling and peanut butter frosting.

 

Any other combo I haven't thought of.

    I guess I'm a little weird, I'd make a chocolate cake (because the flavor with OB buttercream is awesome!) and call it like pumpernickel bread or something lol

    mmmm...yum!  I agree with PP, I like the vanilla cake combo (and I'd go strawberry FWIW)  What a cute party idea!

    Vanilla cake with strawberry sounds good to me and would be good if someone had peanut allergies or was too young to eat peanut butter!

    The picture Heidi posted is awesome and not too hard to make...you could make the "PB filling" using a mixture of vanilla and chocolate frosting or tint vanilla brown if you don't want to use real PB.

    If the theme is peanut butter and jelly and there is no worry of allergies I would definitely do a vanilla cake with a peanut butter buttercream/ raspberry preserves filling.  I would probably do a vanilla buttercream for the frosting.

    My only concern would be allergies also - if you had any concern about that, you could make a buttercream with just a little cocoa (and maybe a little yellow food coloring) to look like peanut butter, but if not, I agree that vanilla cake with raspberry and peanut butter buttercream filling sounds amazing!
