Question about Ferber

So we (and by we I mean me) are doing Ferber for night time. But I am confused...if E stops crying for say, 3 minutes and then starts again, do I restart the wait time intervals or do I go in when the next interval was supposed to be as if she has been crying the whole time? She keeps starting and stopping crying so I don't want to go in if she is making progress, but I also don't want her to feel like I'm abandoning her!

Re: Question about Ferber

  • I don't know if we did it the 'correct' way, but we did not restart the time intervals.

  • Ok thanks! She ended up putting herself to sleep in about 7 minutes. She cried for a second or two a few times after her initial "real" crying stopped but I just left her in there because I could tell she was making progress. I don't know if she will stay asleep but she got to sleep on her own now!

  • We haven't  done official sleep training yet, but I wanted to throw in my 2 cents. H was on a business trip for a week about 1.5 months ago and I had finally hit my breaking point with J's shenanigans at bedtime. I put him in his crib to give myself a break before starting again and let him talk and cry. He lasted 20 minutes, but then he fell asleep.

The next night it was only 10 min. Then 3 minutes. By the time H was home, J would go down for bedtime without any rocking or nursing and without talking or tears. I did it by myself without a "safety net"  there and while it was hard, it's so nice now. (We're still working on overnight wakings, but I'll take what I can get for now).

I know you're there alone so I just want to say good luck and hang in there.  I hope she is a good girl and gets it soon. :)

Thank you! She does ok with the initial put down but lately its been that after about 20 minutes or so she wakes up again. Its the same with naps. So I'm hoping that we can eliminate those and get back to my baby that STTN and napped 2 hours each nap! Thank you!
