My D&C is tomorrow. They mentioned I could be completely knocked out or just heavily sedated. They made it sound like with the heavy sedation, I'd feel tugging/pressure & hear the procedure happening. Did anyone go for the sedation vs full anesthesia? What was it like? I wish they could just do to me whatever happened when I had my wisdom teeth removed.

Re: Sedation during D&C
I'm sorry for your loss. Hugs, if I could.
I had IV sedation. I wasn't given any other option, but I was glad I did it that way. I don't remember a thing and I was very relieved when it was finished. Either way, you will be OK. I'm so sorry for your loss.

i was also given full anesthesia and wasn't given any other option. i was actually most worried about being put under, but it was very simple, i hardly remember leaving my husband to go into the operating room. he says when they wheeled me out i said, 'wow, it feels like i'm on private practice!' ha ha ha
i wasn't groggy after at all either, just a bit of nausea, but that went away quickly. i took a solid nap when i got home and that was it! good luck, sorry you're going through this also
I'm sorry for your loss.
I would talk with the anesthesiologist when you get there.
I had a hysteroscopy (not exactly the same but similar - dilate cervix and insert scope to remove scar tissue rather than C of the D&C.)
I had heavy sedation through the IV. I was completely out/asleep but was not under general anesthesia which includes a paralytic and required intubation. I felt nothing. I woke quickly afterward and was not pukey or out of it all day. I was tired but not out of it.
I would talk with the anesthesiologist and ask him/her specifically what the options are and what you will remember, feel, be aware of with each and what the difference in recovery is with each.
Good Luck.
I was fully under, but didn't think anything of it, since it was my 5th time.
And honestly, the procedure is so short, the anesthesia wasn't bad as the other times. I woke up quicker, and was alert quicker than any other time. My surgery was to be at 10:30, I know they bumped my time up a bit (maybe 20-30 minutes tops) and I was awake and aware by 10:45.
Good luck with your decision and sorry for your loss.

I had conscious sedation. I felt no pain during the procedure, but was awake and could respond to the doctor if needed. Whatever was in the IV also relaxed me completely, so the experience was not at all traumatic.
I don't do well with being put out completely (disorientated during recover, vomiting). With conscious sedation, I was ready to go 30 minutes after the procedure (and it felt like I could have left even earlier than that.
