April 2012 Moms

Any 2+ moms still sending their older child(ren) to daycare?

I have been home all week with the girls and I don't know if it is just DD#1 adjusting to the new baby...myself suffering from "baby blues"/hormones out of control...or what, but I just cannot make it through the day without feeling like I am losing my mind.

I am still paying for full time daycare until the end of May for DD#1 and probably going to start taking her back full time tomorrow.  I feel like I need some time to get myself back and work on a routine with DD#2.  Of course, I also feel super guilty about sending her to daycare even though she loves it there.  DH is totally supportive about her continuing full time because he does work long hours and knows how exhausted I am by the end of the day.  For the rest of the summer I am on a "pay when she goes" schedule and we will hopefully have a routine down by then and she can just go one day a week so she doesn't forget the routine there as well.

Guess I am just hoping that I am not the only one in this situation.  Sad

But I think it's coming to an end.  MIL does our daycare and E was a big jerk today.  I have a feeling she was hinting that she needs some time off.  Ugh.

  • I work ft but DD goes to all day Pre-school 3 days a week and will through out my leave. She needs it, she is too busy to be stuck inside with us and I'm not the most adventurous newborn mama. MIL will not be watching her on the other two days and I am super nervous as I'm not used to being home with her, let alone with a infant. It sounds weird but I've rarely ever been alone with DD#1.

  • 'oh gosh, definitely don't feel bad about sending her! If I were in your shoes, I would do the same thing!

  • We are doing the SAME thing!  He loves it there, is learning a lot, and gets more energy out than he would at home with me and a newborn... it is a win-win-win situation.

  • I did it with DD and will do it with both of them through mid May -We're already paid up. You bet they are going. If you can afford it is is so wonderful to have that time to bond with baby AND it is good to keep the little ones on their routines.

  • LOL@ HELL YES!!  My DS goes to Montessori one day a week, and my Mum has him for 2 days.  So that's 3 days he's out of the house doing his own thing, and in the case of Grandma, getting special one-on-one attention.  Don't feel bad at all, they need their own time away from you and the new baby!!

  • yup! DS is going to daycare everyday from 7-3. Next week he is home with me because daycare is closed for vacation. Luckily my mom will be here to help out! He will continue to go until mid june when she closes for the summer (it is school year only) so they will both be home with me from mid June until I go back to work at the end of August. Hopefully by then DS will be more adjusted and DD will be more on a routine.

  • Don't feel guilty AT ALL!!! Our DD is currently going 3 days/wk & will continue to do so once baby arrives (in 11 days...eek!). Like PP's have said, she loves going & the interaction she gets there with her peers is something that I wouldn't be able to provide her. Part of me feels a bit guilty as well but I know it's good to keep her routine as normal as possible & day care is a solid part of that.

Hope you start feeling good about your decision to keep sending her. :)

  • I have to pay for it whether he goes or not, so he's going, even though I've been home all week.  No baby yet here though, so it's given me time to catch up on housework and get stuff ready without having to deal with the fact that he does not nap well at home.  When DS2 is born, DS1 will still be going, since I plan on sleeping when the baby sleeps!
