I have been a runner for a few years. I just ran a half in Dec and ran through January and the first week of February. I stopped running sometime about the 6-7 of February because we were starting our last attempt at fertility treatments (an IUI). We had four negatives and knowing this was our last ever attempt... I just wanted to relax and not risk knocking anything loose (I know that sounds silly. I know it is not really possible but it is how I felt after the 4 negatives-).
My question is... I am dying to get back to running and I am unsure if I can. I have technically only been without my 3-4 runs a week for 2 months but do you think it is ok to get back out there? I obviously would have to scale back at the beginning and not go straight back to 4-5 miles at my normal pace. Do you think that maybe I should just stick with walking or maybe walk/jog?
Clearly, I do not want to do anything to risk this pregnancy. Hoping for some advice from other preggo runners!
Thanks ladies!

Re: Question for Running Mommas!
Yes, I would go with this. Ask your doctor first, explain that you stopped running while you were TTC this time and ask if there are any risks with starting to run again. In the meantime, I would just walk.
Get back into it slowly and you should be fine. Don't go right back out at the pace and distance you did before you stopped.
I slacked off on running the first few weeks after my bfp and am going to run a 10k in two weeks. Not quickly, I just want to finish.
Call and check with your doctor to be sure.
My doctor told me if I was a runner to keep running (she did NOT say the same about my soccer playing though - bummer!). Just be sure to listen to your body (don't worry... it WILL talk to you!) and take it easier than you normally would in the beginning. If you have a heart monitor that may be good to use as they say to keep your heartrate under 140/150bpm also.
Wishing you the best!
I would check with your doctor just to be sure, but I think it sould be fine for you to go back to running as long as you start slow and really listen to your body. Maybe start with 2 miles and run/walk. Then you can add little more distance going forward.
In general, exercise is encouraged during pregnancy, and if you were a runner recently, it shouldn't be too much of a shock to add it back in. Definitely be sure you have enough water and calories in your system, though.

I don't think you sound silly at all for cutting back on your running while you were doing the IUI. I just started running since having my first LO (last year) and when started TTC we didn't have any luck the first few cycles. I cut back on running the week of ovulation and that's the cycle that we conceived!
So far I've discussed my running and workouts in great detail with both my OBGYN and fitness instructors. (All 3 of my instructors have had multiple pregnancies and are familiar with what activities to avoid during pregnancy.) So far I'm still running between 2 to 4 miles a day in addition to my workouts and I feel great. I've cut out all of the ab work and have cut back my weight resistance (using exercise bands) to about 75% of what I would normally do. Most of the ladies I've spoken to were able to run into the later-part of their 2nd trimester.
Hope that helps!
Hey there! We are in very similar situations--I ran a half in mid-January, continued running until mid-February then had to stop exercising due to fertility treatments (doctor ordered). I started walking and doing some exercise videos a few weeks ago, but missed running SO MUCH!
So, this week I've started again with VERY light runs. Yesterday I ran/walked for 15 minutes (run 3 walk 2, would just get to the point where my breath was labored before walking), and today for 20 following the same routine. I've felt really great both times--no spotting or cramping, so hopefully everything is still okay in the baby factory! I'm planning to confirm that this is okay when I go to my doctor on Tuesday, but so far I've been encouraged to exercise and stay active, so I feel like as long as I'm not pushing myself too hard, I should be okay.
