Storage Containers

For those of you prepping & freezing meals. What kind of storage containers do you use?

Are ziploc freezer & storage containers perfectly fine to use?

  • We got a couple of different one.

    We did get a few of the Glad container you can bake in, but went to Sam's Club and got a big stack of the aluminum baking trays. That way we can just toss them when we are done (aka less dirty dishes to wash).

  • Press and seal and ziploc freezer bags. I find without the press and seal the food can get freezer burn
  • I pre-freeze then put the food in ziploc freezer bags. I debated buying aluminum pans to trash, but aluminum foil lined pans sprayed with pam work just as well for us.

  • I'm using freezer ziploc bags for things like soup/sauces that can be frozen flat.  And I'm using them for chopped veggies I can use in prep for other meals too.  

    I use disposable 1.5 qt casserole dishes for casseroles.  Most recipes I have makes 3 qts... so I make a regular batch but use a smaller dish for popping into the oven and the other half goes into the disposable dish.  I cover with tin foil (usually with a dish name and directions written on it) and then put the plastic lid on and freeze.  If it came without a plastic lid, I also wrap in saran wrap.

  • I registered for a Foodsaver machine, and will end up getting it myself if we don't have it by June.  I HATE freezer burn, and have yet to figure out how to prevent it with ziplocks, tin foil, parchment paper, etc.  Everything is always covered in frost, and I refuse to eat it.  Hopefully the suction and the seal will prevent this!

    That's what I do.  I line my casserole dish with tin foil, then assemble the dish.  Then freeze for a day or two.  Take out, wrap tightly with foil and saran wrap, stick in a gallon bag.

    When I want to bake it, I put it back into the glass/metal casserole dish and bake it in there.  That way, my real dishes aren't in the freezer for weeks.
