To Double Stroller or Not? Any Moms of 2 want to weigh in?

My hubby and I have been agonizing over whether to purchase a double stroller. Our first will turn 2 right before the 2nd is born.

We've been checking them out in BRU and I don't even know if it will fit in my cars trunk. IF I did get one, it would be Chico as we have the travel system already and plan to use again.

If anyone has one, I'd love to hear your thoughts!!

  • I am not a mom yet but I am a nanny of 3, 6 month old twins and an 20 month old. I really wish mom would get a double stroller. It would make it so much easier to take them for walks or when we are at the mall. To go any where alone you definitely need the double. But I would still keep your single stroller for the days you get to give them their individual attention. Also, since it is sold at BRU ask an associate if you can see if it fits in your car before you purchase. I have been able to do that before. Good luck!

  • DD will be 17 months when this one arrives, but I won't be running out and getting a double stroller right away. I live in Indiana, and NO WAY IN H*LL I'm going to use a stroller during the winter :)

DDs birthday is end of May, so she'll be two and the newest LO will be almost 7mo... I'll consider then. Not quite sure yet. I like the sit & stands, but just being 2, I'm sure she would like to still lay down/take naps still if we are out awhile.... I'm just not sure.

  • I'm not planning on it (of course I could change my mind when baby actually arrives, but I'm definitely not getting one beforehand).

I figure I can use the ergo for the new baby, and by the time baby grows out of being carried, my older daughter (who will be a little over 2 when baby arrives) won't really need the stroller anymore. She hardly uses the stroller now so I figure in a year she won't need it much at all.

  • I'll most likely get the Baby jogger city mini double stroller. We have the single version and love it. DS loves the stroller. This will be our last purchase until LO arrives just in case DS decides to start hating the stroller.

  • Good question I've been meaning to ask.... my first LO will be 2 once the LO arrives. Im sure i'll still need a stroller.

For sure were using our first travel set. But I have been looking into the sit n stand stroller. you can attach the car seat to the frame and in the front it has a seat for the your older baby.

Not sure if it will be worth it. i know the new baby will grow out of the baby car seat.

  • I did find a good deal on a used sit and stand deluxe stroller.  It can be used as two full seats or the back seat folds down so my son can stand or sit freely.  I want to be able to use it when we go to the mall or the zoo.  My son is not a huge fan a stroller but we had this one out in the garage and he loves the idea of it so hopefully it will work.

  • I am a SAHM and am definitely getting a double stroller.  DD will be almost 3 but until she goes to school full time, I need a stroller for both children.  We go to the zoo often as well as shopping and running.  I will probably get the Baby Jogger City Mini double for traveling/shopping and the Baby Jogger Summitt XC jogging stroller for walks/runs.

Sites like Diapers.com and Albeebaby.com have sales pretty often on strollers or you could check out Craigslist too.

I will be getting one, but will wait a few months because I like to wear my babies for awhile.

  • DS will almost be 3 when LO#2 arrives and we are planning on getting the City Mini Double Stroller as well.  I will purchase it closer to my due date in case I change my mind.

I plan on getting a sit and stand stroller since DD will be a little over 3. Was looking at a joovy caboose ultralight. Got some good reviews and universal for carseats since I have a chicco.

  • DS will be about 17 months when LO arrives, so I think we will eventually get one, but I still wear DS so I will probably just stick with wearing the new LO for a while.

  • We already have one. The day before I POAS we purchased the Bumbleride Indie Twin off of Craigslist for our Nanny to use as we are in a Nanny Share and she watches DS and a little girl that is 5 days older.

I would evaluate how often you use a stroller with your current child and for what activities. We go on a walk or run every night, we go to the zoo, we go to the mall, we use a stroller constantly. If you are not a stroller user now, do you think you will suddenly become one when having two?

  • I would wait until closer to your due date or after you have the baby to see if your 2 year old will still sit in the stroller.  Since my daughter turned 2 she will not sit in the stroller no matter where we go - walks, zoo, etc.  She walks everywhere.

  • DD was 2.5 when DS was born and we did purchase a Sit and Stand. We still use it when we walk to pick DD up from preschool because it's a little too far for her to walk the whole way (about a mile and a half) or if we go on long family walks.

  • My aunt had two kids who were 2 years and 2 weeks apart.  The double stroller came in SUPER handy when they were little and we'd go to the zoo or places like that.  I know she never regretted getting one.
