Pregnant after a Loss

Third Beta and an Ultrasound

I just received the results of my third betas: the Dr. feels that they are great.(Phew!)

She asked that I come in for an ultrasound tomorrow. I questioned this, as I am almost sure I am only five weeks and know we won't see a heartbeat. :( It sounds like she just wants to check the placement? Has anyone else been brought in for a super early ultrasound post miscarriage?

She told me that any time levels are over 2000 (mine were 3370 as of yesterday) they bring you in for an ultrasound if you have previously miscarried.

Thoughts?

  • You mostly won't see a heartbeat. But you should see something in the right spot. I had lost of u/s with em. I think a 6 week 8 week 9 week 11 week and 15 week. Then 20 weeks and no more after that....

  • You will most likely not see a heartbeat that early (unless your dates are off) and that's fine.  They may have you come back a week or two later for another u/s.

It sounds like your doc is proactive and just wants to make sure things are off to a good start.

Mine have always been 5-7 weeks post m/c.  I think it just depends on the doctor.

This.  My new OB wants me to schedule one once my betas get to 1000.

  • This sounds normal.  My doctor (Kaiser) also called me to see if I wanted to come in this week once my HCG was over 2000 (to confirm placement).  My last m/c was not ectopic, and I haven't had any cramping that I'm concerned about, so I've opted to wait for my 8 week appointment.  For some strange reason, I have less anxiety waiting than going in early and potentially scrutinizing every little thing.

Let us know how everything goes.
