An unpopular name that I love

I love love love the name Lenore. Ever since reading The Raven in high school, I've loved this name. I know it's not popular, but I love it. Is it too wild to even consider?

  • I like it. Sounds like it could be a nn for Eleanor as well.

  • I didn't know that this was an unpopular name.  Why?

It is my middle name and I have always loved it...it's different and sounds pretty to me.

I love that it's your middle name! I have always adored this name and when I brought it up recently to friends they said that the name is outdated and is "dark." I was hoping it would be one of those older names that is coming back. :-)

  • I love it!  I named my daughter Annabel after Edgar Allen Poe's Annabel Leigh.  I don't think its too wild at all.  Go for it!

  • To me, it's on a par with names I read daily on this board.....I guess nothing is too odd or strange as a name anymore, you know?  Then again, I am one who thinks a name should be along the lines of Ashley, Stephanie, Joshua, Benjamin, Rose, Heather, Michael....you know, a normal name.  But it's also your choice, so I say do it if you want to, it's YOUR life :)
  • What on earth is wrong with Lenore?
  • Lenore is not wild at all, its actually a traditional name.  I know someone who named their daughter Lenore and my first reaction is it sounds like an older woman's name, but after saying/seeing it a few times it really is a pretty name.

OMG, thank you for this suggestion! This was exactly what I needed to get DH on board with Eleanor! Love it!

  • I think it's pretty. It does have a forlorn feel to it for me, but it's a lovely name.

  • Lenore definitely doesn't fall into the "unpopular" name list - I thought it would be uber trendy or made up!

    Lenore is very nice.

  • My grandma is named "Eleanor" & she gave her daughters the middle names "Ellan" & "Lenore".  I think it is a fine name.  :)

  • I really like Lenore and Lenora. One of my BFs is Lenora, and I bug her with the "quoth the raven" line - I get a swat for it, but it has us in stitches. I find the name as spunky as she is.
  • I used a family name for a MN (and always knew that I wanted to do that), but I decided when I was pregnant that if I WASN'T going to use a family name, I'd totally use Lenore as a MN. It's like Marie in that it's two syllable with the emphasis is on the second syllable, so it flows well with a lot of names. But it's much more refreshing and interesting than Marie! Sigh....if only there were a Lenore in my family tree....
  • I really like it.  We are considering using it as a mn.
